Who's the Most Important

Summary:

The shipgirls try to settle a debate on who's the most important ship in the harbor

Notes:

Another short story I wrote some time ago

Work Text:

One spring morning, Javelin, Laffey, Ayanami, and Z23 were out walking at the port when they encountered Atlanta and San Diego arguing fiercely.

“...Just because you have the most medals out of anyone in the entire war doesn’t make you the most important!” snapped Atlanta.

“It certainly does!” retorted San Diego, “At least I don’t try way too hard to impress Commander! Besides, I am Number 1 after all, and not just in singing.~” She then smirked proudly showing off her chest which made Atlanta very cross.

“Well I got a Presidential Unit Citation, been apart in nearly every Pacific operation, and shot down more aircraft than you ever will!” replied Atlanta smugly.

“What’s going on here?” asked Javelin, the two sisters then looked at the quartet.

“We’re here to see who’s really the most important!” said San Diego, “And I’m saying it’s me!”

“No it isn’t,” muttered Atlanta, “you can’t even sing properly, remember what happened to Gridley?”

“I resent that!” huffed the redhead, “Besides, my vocals were out of tune that day!” Atlanta rolled her eyes.

“Why not settle this over a drink?” Laffey asked groggily, handing a bottle to them.

“Thanks but no thanks,” Atlanta replied grimacing along with her sister. Laffey shrugged and drank the rest from the bottle.

“Well…maybe ask one of the bigger ships on who might be the most important, surely it might solve things right?” Ayanami suggested.

“Good idea!” exclaimed San Diego, and ran off to find one, much to the pinkhead's dismay as she followed along with the rest.

Soon they arrived at the Iron Blood dorm, and began their march to find the biggest ship to talk to.
“I suggest we talk to Bismarck first,” Z23 said, “she’ll be our most rational when it comes to deciding.”

“Yeah yeah,” interrupted San Diego, “if she tells us it’s me, I get bragging rights for my next training match!”

“Well if I’m the most important to her, I get to wear all your medals for the rest of the day!” smirked Atlanta.

“You wouldn’t!” San Diego gasped in shock.

“I would!”

“What’s gotten into you dummkopfs?” grumbled a voice, they all turned around to reveal Prinz Eugen, who was just heading back after lunch with Shoukaku and Giulio Cesare.

“We wanna know who’s the most important!” said Atlanta and San Diego in unison.

Prinz Eugen chuckled, “You think it’s one of you six? Ha! Don’t make me laugh; it’s obvious that it’s me.~”

“YOU?” spluttered Sandy in fury, “Let me tell you-”

“That’s enough,” came a calm voice, it was Bismarck, who was making herself a cup of Joe, “now, everyone, mind telling me what’s going on?”

“They’re debating on who’s the most important,” replied an uninterested Laffey.

“Yeah!” added San Diego, “And I keep telling them it’s me!”

Bismarck made a little smile, “Oh Sandy, you have to realize that it’s not the ship that’s important, it’s the faction; the most important faction is us Iron Blood ships.” Eugen smirked triumphantly while the Atlanta-class cruisers were in disbelief.

“That’s not fair!” whined San Diego, “How come you krauts get to be more important than us?!”

“Simple,” Bismarck replied, “we do everything on the seas better than Royal Navy, Eagle Union, and Sakura Empire combined. Plus, we have better technology than you.”

“Oh like jet engines, big guns, and definitely-not-stolen-siren-technology,” replied Sandy sarcastically, “ones you claim to win the war but haven’t.”

“Well…only for the time…” Bismarck said sheepishly.

At that point, the starter quartet decided to leave, “You wanna head out and continue our walk?” Laffey asked the rest. They nodded and walked off, leaving the others to continue their quarrel.

“Hmph, why not ask Frau Akagi? She’ll confirm that we are the most important.” Eugen said.

“Fine!” snorted the Atlanta sisters. Soon, Bismarck, Eugen, Sandy, and Atlanta head over to the Sakura Empire dorm and to Akagi’s room; they knocked and the door opened to reveal Akagi, behind her being Kaga, Zuikaku, Hiryuu, and Souryuu.

“Ah Bismarck-chan,” cooed the crimson-haired kitsune, “what brings you, Eugen and these gaijins here?”

“We’re here asking to confirm who's the most important,” Bismarck replied.

“We hope that it’s us Iron Blood ships who truly are!” proclaimed Eugen boldly.

“You?” Akagi guffawed, “You actually think you are the most important?” She continued laughing along with the other Sakura ships; as a result, the rest of the ships then frowned and started to get very cross.

“Are you saying you are?” Sandy snapped.

“Of course,” Zuikaku smirked, “we’re better than Eagle Union by a large margin.”

“In what way?” sneered Atlanta.

“We make honorable sacrifices to our nation, unlike you,” boasted Hiryuu.

“By suicide?” sniggered a voice, which belonged to Albacore. She was passing by after chasing Taihou to the basement of the dormitory.

“It’s not your average suicide,” said Souryuu adjusting her glasses, “it is an honorary duty to die for one’s nation, sacrificing one’s self kill hundreds of soldiers.”

“Whatever you say wabbit!” teased the sub, and skipped away.

“That Albacore…” muttered Kaga, “it’s a miracle she goes after Taihou only, she’ll give us headaches before we’ll be scrapped.”

The others nodded in agreement. Despite their interruption, no one could still figure out who's the most important; as a result, they kept on arguing and debating. They went to Dragon Empery, which they claimed to be the most important. They then went to Sardegna Empire, they boasted the same thing. Even after Iris Orthodoxy and Northern Parliament, the factions claimed to be the most important. Soon in the middle of the port, many girls were bickering and arguing on who truly is the most important.

“It’s me!” Queen Elizabeth said.

“It is me, nya!” Akashi huffed.

“IT’S ME! ME ME ME!” Roon yelled, gripping her dagger tightly in her fist.

Some like Koln and Nevada tried to calm everyone down to assure them that no one is truly important, that is until…

“That’s enough!” boomed a stern voice. Everyone stopped to look at the source of that voice, Enterprise followed by her sisters Hornet and Yorktown. “What is going on here?” she demanded to anyone that would explain.

“Forgive us Enterprise…” Suffolk answered in shame, “but we had a major debate on who’s the most important…”

“Yes,” added Belfast, “we do apologize…”

“But I’m telling you!” Diego urged, “I’m the most important; I am Number 1 after all!”

“That will be all,” Enterprise informed the redhead sternly before turning her attention to the rest, “Honestly, I’d be ashamed if I were you; I expect this pettiness from destroyers, but to have you cruisers, battleships and carriers join in on this? For shame.” Now everyone felt very silly.

“If Commander were here,” she continued, “he would’ve told you the same thing.”

“Well here he is!” shouted a voice, it was the commander himself. “Now then, I see you’re calming the girls down, well done, I’ll take over for you.”

“Thank you commander,” Enty nodded before he continued.

“I am very disappointed in you all; Laffey and her friends told me everything that had transpired, and I’m surprised you haven’t stopped to think about what makes you really important sooner. At least a few saw sense!” He motioned angrily to a few girls like Koln, Mikasa, and Nevada, “I have told you all plenty of times before, you’re all very important to this port! I treat and like every one of you equally, and I will certainly not scrap any of you dears.” This made many feel a little better, but for some, deep down they feel a boiling rage inside them (you can guess who they are).

“Furthermore,” he continued, “as punishment for your actions,” he pointed to Sandy and Atlanta, “you two will be in charge of cleaning every dorm room in each dormitory, that includes the spare ones that will be refurbished for new members of this fleet.”

“Yes Commander…” the two replied sadly.

“Eugen and Bismarck,” he addressed the two Germans, “you two will be mechanics for our planes here, Akashi will teach you the basics.”

“Jawohl Kommandant…” they replied sincerely.

“And for you Akagi,” he said, “you’re on patrol duties with some of our subs until I can trust you again.”

“Hai Shikikan…” the fox grumbled.

“The rest of you go,” he finally said. Everyone went off to do their regular business.

“You think something like this might happen again?” Hornet asked her sisters. Both Yorktown and Enterprise looked at each other and smiled.

“It’s likely,” Enterprise said to her young sister, “but I have a feeling it might be something more…silly.”

“Like what?”

“Wait a couple of weeks and see for yourself,” chuckled Yorktown. The two older sisters walked off as Hornet pondered at what Yorktown had said.

“Maybe who loves Commander more?” Hornet quizzed to herself as she shrugged before following her sisters back to their dorm.
