Chapter Text
The sun slept as the moon shone down.
Inhabitants of the small village had no clue as to what lurked in the night.
All stayed indoors, staying away from the prime time to prowl and enjoy the cool night air.
It as a tale as old as time itself; a warning to not venture out alone at night.
Any native who was out when as soon as the sun fell asleep became a thrall of the dark. The King claimed them, turned them. The one who was the purest and the prettiest would become the Queen. After all, a king needed a queen.
The tale as old as time spoke of the quartet, the three ones who would arrive, bringing the Queen with them. After that, the tale went dark, ceasing to finish. It foretold an ominous future to the village natives. The King would rule, the world would become prey. The Queen would bring about the world's end...
-------
World ending or not, the prophecy wasn't finished. The foreteller ceased the writings. They did not end it, at least in a way that was easily found...
Sleep never grew dull.
The world changed as time passed, but one thing remained constant; the villagers' fear of him.
Even in sleep, they talked in hushed tones, fearful he would wake and stalk the grounds once more.
No one wanted his presence, but they knew he slept, knew he would wake.
The elders tried to seal him long ago, but their spell failed. All they did was make him sleep during the naptime of the moon.
His presence was felt everywhere, even while sealed.
But he knew his time was nigh...
His Queen...
She was coming.
The villagers knew it, he knew it, the elders had known it.
It was impossible to stop. All those damned elders had done was delay the inevitable.
But now... Now his time was nigh. He just needed his Queen... And then he could wake.
The world would be his once more.
Darkness would rise, crops would die, disease would be rampant, love would become betrayal, trust would become paranoia, respect would become hate...
All he needed was his Queen... And the end of what humans knew as their world would be nigh!
Even deep in his slumber, he chuckled darkly. Yes, soon it would be his reign anew...
