Work Text:
“Gotham has requested our assistance in a case.”
“Gotham?”
“Asking for ‘outsider’ help? This must be quite the case.” Derek leaned back in his chair.
“What do you mean?” Emily asked him.
“They’re notorious for handling things internally. Besides, outsiders aren’t really welcomed there.”
“I can understand that there’s an ‘insider’ mentality within the city,” Rossi started.
“No, it’s more than that, those who’ve visited often say that it’s the city that makes them feel unwelcome.” Spencer answered. “There are plenty of reports of visitors experiencing … hauntings. There hasn’t been an official study, of course-”
“And then residents are unaffected by this, they’re…” Derek continued.
“Over it. Used to Lady Gotham and her possessiveness and dislike of outsiders and is very … protective? Territorial?” You shrugged. “Gotham gets a bad rep and some of that’s deserved-”
“A bunch of nicknamed serial killers, vigilantes running around unchecked and interfering with investigations, an asylum that doesn’t have a good track record for killing its inmates inside? I wonder why,” Rossi said sarcastically.
You raised an amused eyebrow. “You’re definitely an outsider, I wouldn’t recommend saying things like that in Gotham, it brings bad omens,” you warned lightheartedly.
“Ok, let’s get back to the case,” Hotch interrupted before you could get further off topic. He continued and you shifted in your seat, a spider-sense, or rather a bat-sense, prickling the back of your neck. Derek glanced sideways at you before returning his gaze to Hotch.
“They’re currently experiencing cult-like killings that are terrorizing the city and have crossed the river into Blüdhaven. The two PD's have been working together so far, but unfortunately, the GPD commissioner was reluctant to share more information over the phone or by email-”
“So we’re going in blind?” Emily asked.
No, of course not, you thought to yourself, listening hard, preparing to stand.
Hotch shook his head. “No, they’ll be sending a representative from the police force with the files.”
“Who is it?” Penelope asked.
Hotch was interrupted from answering by you standing fluidly from your seat and striding towards the door.
You flung it open, grabbing onto the frame so it didn’t hit the wall, and stared at the two men on the other side, posed to knock.
“Dick.”
You heard some startled coughs behind you but didn’t turn your attention away from the man in front of you.
He grinned at you. “Hi.”
You narrowed your gaze and did a quick once over of him, thankfully there were no visible signs of any injuries, but unfortunately with Dick, sometimes you could never tell.
“Hi.” Your gaze flicked to the man behind your brother and friend. “Hi, Anderson.”
“Hi.” He gave you a little wave.
You stepped back and let the men enter the room, realizing, but not really caring, that your team was probably judging you for seemingly swearing at the visiting detective. You returned to your chair, leaving the introductions to Anderson, ignoring all your teammates’ frowny side-eyes.
Anderson coughed awkwardly as he entered the room. “Everyone, this is Detective Richard Grayson from Blüdhaven PD-”
Penelope gasped quietly and you wondered if anyone else had caught Dick’s name and made the connection to the Wayne family, how Dick was more or less Gotham royalty.
“He was sent by Commissioner Jim Gordon of Gotham PD to consult on the case. The two cities have been collaborating on this case so far.”
“Thank you, Anderson,” Hotch said, stepping forward to shake Dick’s hand. “Nice to meet you, Detective Grayson-”
“Oh, please, call me Dick.”
JJ and Penelope’s heads whipped to look at you. Did you know this man?
“Yes, I know. It sounds better in every language but English.” He smiled his most charming smile and your focused glare softened at the familiarity of it. It was good to have your family here.
“Well, good to have you here, man,” Derek said, standing up to shake his hand as well. “I’m Derek Morgan.”
Everyone else introduced themselves from their seats to hasten things along.
“A pleasure to be here.”
“So, Grayson, what can you tell us about this case?”
You caught Dick’s eye across the table and gave him a small smirk. No, your team would very likely not call him Dick.
His mouth twitched minutely to say, I tried, as he began telling your team the details of the case.
Your phone buzzed silently in your pocket in the specific pattern you’d set up for Penelope and you frowned at her across the table. She widened her eyes at you as if to say open it! You pulled out your phone to glance at her text.
You better tell us all about how you know Dick Grayson-West-Wayne after this case is over!!!!! 😠😠😠
You rolled your eyes fondly. No, there was no way of getting out of this secret family reveal, was there?
