Learning that the Highest Expectations, Sometimes Don't Matter

Summary:

I was browsing through the archive when I came upon an old MCC one-shot. It was really captivating, and I wanted to make a continuation based on the fic's ending.

Sapnap learns more about what can happen when you're too hard on yourself.

Notes:

I never watched much of the Dream Team or Dream Smp, so let me know if I mischaracterize them. I only know some basic stuff from when I occasionally watched the Dream Team or when other participants talked about him.

Chapter 1: A Meeting

Chapter Text

Sapnap was meeting Scott in the hub because Scott wanted to talk to him about his MCC sign-up form. He wasn’t quite sure why Scott wanted to do so, but he figured that it’d probably be best to meet up with him. After all, he made the teams; if he wanted to talk with him about why he put Grian down as someone he wanted to team with, it probably was important. As he walked through the central hub to a portal leading to a smaller hub, he thought back to what Pete had told him: his worth wasn’t defined by an individual placement. After that, MCC, he found himself talking with the slime hybrid, finding that he had a surprisingly deep well of knowledge when it came to various things. Pete had also encouraged him to talk to Fruitberries or Hbomb, too, about MCC.

He’d considered what the slime hybrid had told him and realized that for the longest time, he had surrounded himself with people who brought out his competitive side, the one where not living up to people’s expectations was unacceptable. This was the reason he had been struggling lately with his mental state alongside his own high expectations for himself. He knew now that leaving the conversation with the others had been a step in the right direction. Although he had yet to apologize, he decided to think about doing so later, as he had made it to the portal connecting the central hub to the hub where he was going to meet Scott.
