Chapter Text
Fount was everything everyone wanted to be; popular, smart, good looking and charismatic. He got along with both students and teachers, well loved by all. The pride of the school
He was talking with his friends, all members of the student council, about the last meeting. It put them onto a project to find a way to improve the school, and the top idea would get implemented by the end of the term.
Salt immediately started on ideas "What if we make a club that's open during lunch and break. Make it so anyone can join so that they can relax away from all the chaos. We could provide food and snacks to those who missed out on lunch, and have a little library with books, board games and some computers! A little paradise for them!" He was ecstatic sharing his ideas with the others, and they could tell behind the mask he was smiling giddily.
"That's not a bad idea, but~" Fount places a little 'boop' on his nose before continuing "You gotta think realistically, what do you think is gonna happen when you let a bunch of people hangout with the freedom to do whatever they want? Not to mention we only have a budget of £200"
Elder Faerie spoke up with his own ideas "Hmm we'll definitely need to have a teacher or two supervising the area and implement some rules. Something like, no bullying, no fighting and anything else that's already against school rules. And about the money, we could set up a fundraiser to help set up the club"
Salt nodded but before any more ideas could be suggested, the bell rang loudly. Fount waved them off as he went to class, he had a different one to them so he had to leave them. Faerie took Salts hand and they walked to class together. Having their own separate conversation
Once they were out of sight, Fount's eyes darkened, the little glimmer gone from them. Other than that his face looked normal, he still looked like the beloved Fount. Walking down the hallway people passed by him, some waving and saying hello, others in groups lost in conversation and a couple chasing after each other in a race. The noise around him was muffled by his thoughts. Disgusting
Fount couldn't understand how those two cared so much for them. They were like bleeding hearts with all the compassion they had for such worthless people.
He has seen it all; unfaithful partners asking him how to make it up with their lover, two-faced friends attempting to use him for their own gain and all the little lies and rumours spread around the school.
It pissed him off that people were so obsessed with this idea to save their image by lowering others. To him, they were all just Filth desperately trying to claw their way out.
He could see through their facades as they attempt to get close to him, every time he tried to tell the truth they would look at him disappointedly. He was stuck, forced to be this perfect image and tool for everyone else. The only saving grace were his actual friends, their kindness making it bearable.
Snapping out of it, he entered his biology classroom, making sure to wave at his friends and teacher before taking his seat. His classmates swarmed around his desk, saying things like "Hey~, bestie Fount!
"Hey, everyone's day alright?" He didn't care about their responses, some saying a simple yeah while others began to rant over petty things. His eyes caught the door slowly opening as a girl with a walking cane stepped inside. He paid her no thought as she began to move to her seat in the corner.
She was stopped once the teacher called out her name "Lily?"
"Uh, yes miss?"
"Due to your behaviour I'd like you to sit next to Fount" That doesn't benefit either sides
"Wha- what behaviour exactly?"
"You haven't done anything wrong, but I've noticed you're not participating in class, so sitting with others should encourage you to work harder" The teacher silenced any protest she had.
Awkwardly, she walked up to Fount and sat down with some effort. The crowd around him paid no attention to her, only dispersing once the teacher told them to.
The lesson started, Fount writing down notes neatly, using different highlighters and colours to make it look nice. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw the messy scribbles Lily was writing, it was honestly impressive on how she could understand her handwriting.
The teacher went onto the next slide, which had some questions for them to complete. They were simple ones that Fount completed swiftly with no effort. Lily had no problems with them either, setting her own pen aside before he did.
It didn't bother him.
It shouldn't bother him, and yet it did.
He didn't know why it bothered him, but he knew that it shouldn't. He knew how stupid it was to think like that and yet the thoughts didn't go away. He knew how petty it was and hated it even more for that. It was all so irritating
Adjusting his glasses, he attempted to finish the next batch of questions with a bit more efficiency this time, however like before she beat him.
Looking at her book, he could see she had written something down for each question and, after a bit of deciphering, the answers she had were true. His train of thought was interrupted as the teacher calls on Lily to answer the next question.
A bit dazed and surprised, Lily stammered out an answer which was correct. She looked relieved after it was over, her body relaxing as if a huge weight was taken off her.
He sighed, comparing her to a cat that got startled by it's own shadow. Taking a glance at the clock, he had another 30 minutes to try winning
.
White Lily felt the glaring eyes at her since she sat down beside him. A couple of stares were made at her but nothing compared to his. They were burning into her and honestly just really awkward.
"Am I really that bad to sit by? Is it all my fault? Did I do something wrong?" Countless questions filled her mind as she attempted to ignore him, only stopping when her teacher called onto her.
The lesson still had another 30 minutes to go.
Out of pure curiosity, she decided to look back. Not a full on stare but a quick glance at him, taking a peek he looked normal but she felt the discomfort. Taking a closer look she saw his troubled eyes, lost in the abyss of his own thoughts. She felt something gnawing at her to learn what he was thinking. Like she wanted to pick apart his brain to see how it works, no that's weird. Normal people shouldn't think like that.
Lily felt concerned for him, but was it her place to confront him about it? For the time being, she stayed silent. Eyeing the clock ever so often as the lesson continued.
A sense of relief washed over her as the class ended, she already started packing up a few minutes before so she wasted no time in getting up. Carefully, she used her walking stick for support to lift her out the chair, then hoisting her bag over her shoulders and began to leave.
Some students pushed past her, too busy with their conversations to wait or care. Two of them let her go in front of them, Lily mumbling out a quiet "Thank you"
Heading into the dining hall she saw how crowded the line was. It was disorganised, people attempting to squeeze their way through to the front and causing arguments that only settled when a teacher came over. She was glad she packed her own lunches, though she didn't exactly have an appetite.
"Lily! Over here I saved you a spot!"
Turning around to the direction of the voice, she saw her best friend Pure Vanilla. He had a big cheery smile on him as he waved at her. Walking towards him, she sat down at the table as Vanilla began to pick at his food. He was really specific with the way he ate food, sometimes outright refusing to eat it if the texture or taste was wrong. Lily didn't judge him for that, it's not like her eating habits were any better.
"Soo, how was biology?" Taking a fork, he finally eats a bite of his food.
"Fine"
"Nothing interesting happened?" Lily didn't fully feel like talking about her experience with Fount so she answered simply.
"Well the teacher made me sit next to a table with other people and it was awkward I guess." She sat there twirling her hair as Vanilla ate his food.
"Aww that sucks."
"I'm assuming you and Golden were messing around the whole time in your lesson?"
He let out a guilty smile as he admitted it. "Yeah"
"Maybe I should just flunk my grades so I can get into your class"
"Don't say that! Maybe you can make friends in your class!" Making new friends, it wasn't a bad idea she just didn't know how. Meeting new people was always nerve wracking and exhausting for her. She didn't know what to say or do. She didn't know how to connect with people.
After Vanilla was done eating his food, the two decided to walk around the school to pass the time. They talked about various topics, such as a new game they were into or about a weird looking bug that had gotten stuck in their room. Their walk with no clear destination in mind had brought them to the field with two students sitting under the largest tree.
It was Elder Faerie and Salt, they were writing something on a notebook before Faerie noticed the two and waved. He tapped Salt's shoulder to get his attention at the approaching duo.
The uneven terrain made it a bit difficult for Lily to get there, she was just happy the dirt didn't turn into mud from the rain earlier that day. Once she got there Salt showed her the thing he had been writing down.
"It's just a mind map of ideas right now, but I want it to become something big!" The notebook had some ideas to set up a club of some sorts. It had a list of items with their prices, some things were scribbled out and others circled.
Vanilla looked down at the book, squinting through his glasses. "What's this for?"
"We were tasked with a project to make the school better, right now our idea is a club. It's really just a room that people can hangout during lunch and break, that's supervised by teachers"
White Lily took the book from Salt, skimming the book before handing it back to him. Each idea was about helping everyone. Always thinking about others
"I believe you two can be of help"
"I would love to but how exactly? Me and Vanilla aren't Student Council"
"You can help brainstorm ideas and we still need a way to fund the project itself." Elder Faerie smiled before continuing "So, do you two want to help?"
"When I'm free then of course!" Lily simply nodded in agreement.
The bell rang again, signalling the 3rd period is starting. The group split up into duos, heading to their shared lessons.
Lily and Vanilla had the same English lesson together. Going inside, they went to their class on the first floor, heading to the central stairs. Taping her key card onto the elevator, it opened letting her in. "You can join me in here"
"Oh thank you" Vanilla stepped in, clicking the button to the first floor. He took at the mirror inside there, using it to put his glasses on properly. Once the door opened, they stepped out together.
Her other friends would be there as well, even if she barely talked they would still include her. They were all too kind to her, she felt as if she didn't deserve them.
Pushing those thoughts aside she entered the classroom with Vanilla. Looking at the corner, her friends already sat at the table.
Golden Cheese was the first to notice them, she put down the pen she was halfway done dissembling and waved at them. "Lils, Vani! Sit down already!" The English teacher told her to quiet her voice down, before focusing back on getting the smart board started.
Lily walked over to her seat, using one hand to pull her chair and then sitting down, resting her stick on the side. Vanilla sat down beside her, before starting a conversation with the others.
None of them paid much focus on the Literature lesson, only doing the questions and taking key notes. Her friends were taking part in conversations, often making jabs and jokes at eachother. Cheese managed to successfully piss off Cacao, it took lots of restraint for him not to start scolding her. Lily stared outside absentmindedly, zoning out while looking at the scenery.
There were just rows of houses alongside the school and a couple of trees planted by the city. Inside the tree there was a hole hollowed out inside the trunk, with a bird inside it. Looking at it, a bit longer she recognised it as an owl, it was a little hard to see but the tree was close enough to be have it been seen..
Snapping her back into focus was the bell ringing, the 4th period starting now. Just one more lesson
It was Maths, Lily didn't mind the subject however she heard a groan from her friends. Golden Cheese on the other hand loved it, she took pride in always acing her tests. "Come on Lils, let's go together!"
The two walked side by side, catching up with what they did over summer break. They had a different math class from the rest of the group, being in a higher set due to their high grades. Walking over to the elevator, Lily used her card to open it up. "Hey, who do you think faster, me or that elevator?"
"Well if you sprint then-"
"Ready, set, go!" And with that she was off, Lily sighed as she clicked the button to the floor 3. She watched the elevator doors close as her ascent began.
Waiting for her was Golden, smiling at her but panting slightly. "Guess I win" She pulled out a victory pose, before sticking her tongue out.
"Congratulations, you beat a person with a walking cane in a race"
"Hey! When you phrase it like that it sounds bad!" Lily smirked as she walked out the elevator, the doors shutting behind her. The two continued their path towards their class, one student was already outside the class waiting.
It was Fount, she never really paid attention to who was in her classes outside her friend group. She tried to not pay him much thought but she kept wondering, what the hell was his problem? Maybe he was just having a bad day, or maybe he just hated her. They all did.
Golden paid no attention to him, talking about a mall trip she was planning with Holly. "So, you wanna join? It'll be fun!"
Public places always stressed her out. "No thanks"
"Alright, tell us if you change your mind"
Fount looked at the two girls that had just got here. He had no interest in the shorter one, eyeing the one with the red eyes. Something about her was intriguing to him as if he was drawn to her. He thought of her as different to the rest of this school.
The door to the classroom was opened by the teacher, other students had already gathered round. They began to enter the classroom, Lily's seat being near the door while Golden had to sit on the other side of the classroom, Fount sat right next to the teachers desk at the front.
The class was a refresher on past topics and walked over and noticed her finished work.
"Done already? Here work on these challenge questions I prepared"
More work, great.
It wasn't that big of a deal, just requiring another step before the final answer, but she felt eyes glaring at her once more. Seriously, what was his deal?
The lesson had 3 minutes left, Lily kept eyeing the clock. It was 5 minutes behind and the school wasn't bothered enough to fix it. The teacher went around, collecting the worksheets to mark, going to each desk and waiting for them to hand it to them.
Finally reaching her's, they simply took it and exchanged it with new homework, she was slightly irritated at it but she wasn't one to complain. Shoving it into her bag, she got ready to leave as the teacher began to dismiss them.
Lifting herself out the chair, she stabled herself on her cane to stand. The students left the classroom hurriedly, Golden stayed behind to wait for Lily. The two leaving together, this time Golden went in the elevator with her. Not wanting to go down the crowded staircase where everyone was pushing and shoving.
They walked outside the school, separating once Lily got into her parent's car. She stayed silent as the car started up and drove off, watching her school disappear into the distance.
.
Fount reached home, taking his shoes off and placing them to the side of the front door. Putting on some slippers, he walked to his room, it was dark. The only thing illuminated were some glow in the dark stars he got when he was young.
Flipping on the light, his entire room was based off Space, it was clean and well organised. There was a board with sketches of drawings hung up, some being anatomy based while others show designs of clothes. There was a shelf full of books, ranging from revision and coursework guides, astronomy books to books about philosophy. There were some parts of the shelf were closed off by glass, showcasing different awards he had won
Fount didn't have any time to rest there, he had a scheduled private tutoring by his mother. He simply changed out of his school clothes into the ones already picked out by her as well. Looking at the mirror he checked for any flaws, seeing none he took a breath and relaxed himself. Flipping off the light, he left.
