Work Text:
Getting attention from ladies was what Gamma Jack lived for. He took pleasure in the reactions drawn from flustering civilians, saving them in return for their adoration. Everyone knew he saved the hot ones first. If anyone had a problem with it he shrugged it off, any lawsuits being sorted swiftly by his lawyer.
His lawyer.
Simon J. Paladino.
Also known as Gazerbeam.
~~~
The supervillain before them was a rather hot one, a stunning dame, with flight and electricity. It was a difficult mission for Gamma Jack to tear his eyes from her extremely low-cut form-fitting super suit. It didn’t help that she had witty lines that rivaled his own.
He was having fun toying with her, Gazerbeam had ‘ordered’ him to keep her busy while he saved civilians- not that he was doing it because he told him to! He knew it would be less boring than the alternative. He was beginning to get bored when the helmet-hero gave the all clear. Bad news was she saw too.
He had barely a moment to think before the lightning arched past him. Nor did he when he was suddenly in front of Gazerbeam, one hand wrapping around his waist, the other scooping under his legs and launching back into the sky.
“Fuck-” his colleage yelped in suprise, arms instinctively wrapping around his neck. “Jack, what the hell-?” He was cut off by the glow emitting from Gamma Jack’s eyes.
He turned to the lightning witch, who gasped in pain as his gaze focused on her. He only uttered one word.
“No.”
She shriveled slowly, screaming in agonized pain as she went.
It took a while, by the time it was done and he refocused on the man in his arms all the electricity in the air was gone. It took him a while to realize that Gazerbeam was shaking slightly, and breathing rapidly. Then he realised that he had been holding him bridal style for roughly five minutes.
He swiftly landed, going to place his colleague down, but he leaped from his grip, meters from the ground. Clearly he was also uncomfortable with the close proximity.
Not long after they touched down people swarmed towards them. Several ladies instantly surrounded Gamma Jack, ogling him and giggling to themselves. As usual the reporters went to Gazerbeam, knowing they wouldn’t get jack from Jack.
Once the reporters were satisfied and fled Gamma Jack began talking to his fans, keeping his voice sad and wistful. “I’m so sorry ladies, but a hero’s work is never done. Gazerbeam and I-” when his gaze flicked to the other hero he faltered, a weird feeling jolting through him. There was a lady, blonde hair with blue eyes talking to Gazerbeam. Who was responding. And laughing. “Gazerbeam.” His voice came out much sharper than he had intended. ”We need to head back to the NSA headquarters. Get the paperwork done.”
“Right,” he frowned at the tiny flinch at his name, barely noticed by Jack and definitely not anyone else. “We really should, they won’t be happy if we’re late.” Gazerbeam turned back to the woman, voice sweet. He didn’t like it. “I’m so sorry ma’am, I have to go.”
“Oh that’s alright, I understand.” Her voice was soft. He hated it.
Now alone, the two supers turned to one another. Gamma Jack tried to start the conversation, smiling brightly. “So should I give you a lift to-”
“No.” The quick response made him falter, frowning slightly. “Sorry, it’s just-” Gazerbeam sighed, turning away. “I like to walk back so I can go over the event in my head, get a clear timeline.”
“Oh, yeah sure.” He paused, hesitating. “Y’know if we travel together we can get our story straight?”
“Sorry, but ah- no offence, -I just like being alone after missions.” Why was there a sliver of a tremor in his voice? Had he done something wrong?
“I totally get it,” he didn’t, “see you there!”
~~~
He was doing his best not to think about it.
Really, he was!
It didn’t bother him in the slightest.
Why would it.
Why should it?
~~~
He only saw a glimpse of Gazerbeam at the NSA. It felt to him like the super was avoiding him, but he chose to ignore that feeling. He went to ask him a question, he wasn’t sure what, but when he rounded the corner the man wasn’t there.
~~~
The next couple months were… weird.
He was used to being put on at least one mission a week with Gazerbeam, now he was lucky if he saw a glimpse of him at all.
He didn’t expect it to hurt as much as it did, in fact he didn’t expect it to hurt at all. He had often made jokes about the relief he would feel if he never had to see Gazerbeam again, but now that seemed like a real possibility he wasn’t sure he’d ever lose the strange feeling burrowing into his gut.
~~~
Sitting in a booth with Bob and Lucius after a mission wasn’t as fun as it used to be. He was staring down into his drink, letting small levels of gamma rays push around and melt the ice. He sculpted the ice carefully, but without barely thinking. When he snapped back into focus he realised one had started to look like Gazerbeam’s helmet. He melted it quickly.
“k?”
“ack?”
“Jack?”
“JACK?” His head shot up to make eye contact with Bob, who was looking at him quizzically. “You alright?”
“Hm?” He blinked, trying to focus on his voice. “Oh, yeah I’m fine. Why?”
“You were spacing out,” Bob frowned, eyebrows scrunching in thought. “Actually, you’ve been spacing out all week, are you sure you’re alright?”
“Yeah, of course. I’m just,” he sighed, rubbing at his eyes. “Nevermind, it’s nothing."
“Clearly not,” Lucius huffed, grinning at him over his glass. “What’s on your mind? Problem with the ladies?”
“Gazerbeam, actually.” He dropped his head, voice low to avoid attention.
“Simon?” Lucious lowered his glass, glancing between Bob and their friend. “What’s happened to Simon?”
“I don’t know,” he spread his arms, agitation leaking into his voice. “We had one mission where I had to hold him bridal style cause he was in the path of a supervillain and now? Now he practically runs out of every room I step into. Is physical contact with me really that bad?”
“That’s not why,” Bob frowned, drawing both his friends' attention.
“What do you mean?” It took nearly everything he had to keep his eyes from burning green. “Bob. What do you know?”
“Well, I mean- I just-.” he gestured wildly. “Lucius? Help?”
“I know nothing.” He held his hands up in surrender, “but c’mon Bob. The guy’s gotta know.”
“Yes, yes I do.”
“Fine.” Bob let out a huff, you’d never know he was Mr. Incredible. “I spoke with Simon the other day-”
“And?”
“And” he raised an eyebrow at the over eagerness. “He wasn’t uncomfortable with the physical contact, if anything he was grateful for the save. What he was uncomfortable with was your, uh. Well, y’know-”
“Spit it out would ya?!”
“Your method of detaining the villain.” Jack blinked, his confusion evident. “It was, kinda, um. Extreme.”
“Extreme?”
“You did kill the lady,” Lucius mused. “From what I hear it was a long and incredibly painful death.”
“Exactly!” Bob nodded, happy with the backup. “Simon was, and he won’t admit this, he was terrified.”
“Of… me?”
“Yeah.” Bob looked him dead in the eyes. “Of how quickly you chose to kill her and how painful you made it.”
~~~
Gazerbeam was in town. He was on a mission to defeat some supervillain who could redirect light. Gamma Jack wasn’t exactly invited, but he was there. Out of sight. Waiting.
He was so bored.
That was until Gazerbeam saw a child, about to be crushed by falling debris. He moved his head, losing focus on the villain to blast the rubble. The villain took their chance, redirecting sunlight to point directly at the hero. Even from where Gamma Jack was hiding he could sense how much radioactivity was being emitted from those rays.
He shot forward, barely thinking, getting himself between the two, pressing his body to Gazerbeam's, a hand behind him to his waist. He absorbed the energy, barely even feeling a tickle, while his main focus was the tensing body behind him.
He was going to blast the villain out of existence, his anger overshadowing Gazerbeam’s reaction to his last eradication, when he was stopped.
“Don’t,” the voice was soft, but urgent. “Please, just. Just don’t.”
“Hmm,” despite his nonchalant reaction he chose not to kill, rather he changed his target. He sent the blast to the manhole beneath the villain's feet, destroying it and causing them to fall, hitting their head on the way. He tilted his head, leaning back and turning towards Gazerbeam’s ear. “They’re alive, just unconscious.” He paused for a second before attempting to make him laugh, “and probably sitting in several peoples shit.”
Gamma Jack turned to Gazerbeam, wanting to talk to him, but his attention was already taken. The blonde from the other day. Now they were talking like old friends, flirting even. There was a sinking feeling clawing its way up his gut, attacking his chest.
Two minutes. That’s all it took. He stepped forward, placing himself firmly behind Gazerbeam and gripping both hands at his waist. He rested his head on the Hero's shoulder, eyes glowing menacingly as he smirked down at the woman.
“Sorry, but I need to steal my dear, here, for a moment.” His voice held his usual aloofness, but there was an undertone of something even he couldn’t quite place. “He and I need to talk, hero stuff, you understand.”
“Oh, um.” She blinked, stepping back warily. “Right, sorry, I didn’t know.”
“Oh, of course not.” His grip tightened slightly, hands sliding further around the man's waist till they crossed, landing on opposite sides.
“Gamma Jack,” his voice came out low, muttering. “What the hell are you doing?”
“We need to talk,” he whispered back, keeping his smile on his face. “Now.”
Gazerbeam grabbed tightly onto the arms around him as Gamma Jack shot into the air. He touched down softly on a rooftop, only to be immediately shoved away by the other.
“What the hell!” Gazerbeam spat, whirling towards him. “What, so you can flirt with whoever the hell you want but I can’t? What is your problem?”
“I don’t have a problem with you flirting! Good! Good on you!”
“Then why is it that both times you’ve seen me with that girl you’ve gotten all jealous!”
“Jealous?!”
“Yeah! I’m sorry that not every woman is falling over you but,” he stopped, taking a step away from Gamma Jack, who just realized he was starting to levitate slightly, fists clenched, eyes glowering a violent green hue. “I’m sorry.” His voice was small, wavering. He hadn’t heard it like that before. He didn’t like it. “That was rude and out of line and-”
“No!” He went to take a step towards him, no longer levitating, but stopped dead when the other moved backwards. “No, no. I’m sorry, you’re right I have been interrupting your dates-” he paused, blinking tightly and sighing “-meetings with that girl. But I did genuinely want to talk to you.”
After a moment Gazerbeam sighed, backing up even more causing Gamma Jack to falter, thinking he had scared the man off. That was until he sat down on a condenser unit, motioning to the one opposite.
“So,” he sat down on the bulky metal box opposite Gazerbeam, not quite sure how to start the conversation.
“So?” The helmeted hero looked uncomfortable. “What did you want to talk about?”
“Well,” he brought a hand up to his hair, drawing a tiny flinch out of the other. “That! That’s what I want to talk about!”
“What?”
“You, you’re…” he hesitated, looking at the man in front of him. “You’re scared of me.”
“No, no I’m not-”
“Yes you are.” He slipped off the condenser unit and took a step closer, sighing when Gazerbeam tensed. “See?”
“Look, Jack-”
“I know.” He allowed a small smile to dance on his face, “Bob told me it was because of my… questionable methods?”
“Jack, I'm sorry.” Gazerbeam turned his head away, “It’s just… just a bit too, um.”
“Villianous?” His smile grew, he sauntered forward, quickly getting close, slotting himself between the sitting heroes legs. “Hey, Gazerbeam, look at me.” The man must have been fighting back an eye laser or two given how red he’d turned under the helmet. “C’mon,” he reached a hand out, gently cupping his face and turning it towards himself. “Simon-”
“Not while we’re in supersuits!" He was swift to respond, snapping his head back only to falter at the proximity. “Oh, hi I guess.”
“Hey,” his free hand naturally gravitated to rest on Gazerbeams hip. “But you know I’m not a villain, right?”
“Yeah, of course I do. It’s just…”
“I know. Most heroes don’t kill.” He chuckled, dropping his hands and stepping back. “I do it because it’s a guarantee they can never harm people again. I am sorry about how violent I was the other day, I get that it’s even worse than if I had just killed her quickly.”
“It was really gruesome."
“And I’m really sorry. If you don’t want me to kill someone I won’t. Okay?”
“Okay?” He tilted his head slightly, “but why?”
“I…” He paused, looking at Gazerbeam, his voice soft and confused. “I don’t know.”
He left, a smile on his face despite the confusion coursing through his veins.
~~~
Three days later he was put on a mission. He didn’t bother reading the mission brief.
Arriving outside the NSA building he was met with Mr Incredible, Frozone and Elastigirl.
“Hey guys, this everyone?” All three of them looked at him with confusion evident in their gazes. “What? I forget my mask or something?”
“You joined us,” Frozone responded, deadpanning. “A team with at least one lady and you didn’t immediately flirt with her?”
“Would you have preferred it if I had?”
“Nope, it’s a good change,” Elasticgril cut in, a smirk visible. “What brought it on?”
“Just didn’t feel like it,” he quickly tried to cover himself, “not saying you aren’t as gorgeous as usual, but today I’m not exactly in the mood.”
“You got your eye on someone?” Frozone teased, grinning.
“If that someone is my bed, then yes.”
“Alright guys, everyone is here so we’re all set?”
“Gazerbeam?” His grin was strong and wide.
“Hey, Jack.” He returned a soft smile before turning to the others. “So everyone ready then?”
“That explains it,” Elastigirl grinned slightly, “and yeah Gazerbeam, we’re all set.”
“I’ve missed something, haven’t I?”
“Nah, not really. Just these three being weirdos.”
They worked through the mission with a strong sense of determination. Infiltration and information. Then they came to a crossroad.
“We’ll need to separate.” Gazerbeam mused, peering down each of the three paths. “Elasticgirl, you’re the stealthiest, you mind going solo?”
“Not in the slightest.” She grinned, chuckling with the expression on Mr. Incredibles face. “Oh sweetie, you are practically the opposite of stealth. At least if you’re with Frozone there’s less of a chance of total destruction.”
“Heavyweight problems need heavyweight solutions!”
“But sometimes it’s better to,” Frozone paused, letting them know a horrible pun was on the way. “Keep it cool.”
“No. Please stop.”
There were hushed sounds of debate as Gamma Jack turned to Gazerbeam.
“We’re together then?” He hated how hopeful his voice sounded.
“Yeah, c’mon.” He was pretty sure that under the helmet he received an eye roll, “let’s let them sort themselves out.”
They walked down the hall together, Gamma Jack just a step behind Gazerbeam. They moved in silence, He wasn’t sure if it was a comfortable one or not.
It was becoming uncomfortable when he felt it. High levels of radiation coming from a room up ahead, it was sudden and strong. If Gazerbeam went any further it could seriously harm him. He quickly grabbed a hold of the other's hand and pulled him back.
“You can’t go any further.”
“What?” Gazerbeam stumbled slightly, a frown evident on his face. “What’s going on? Are you alright?”
“Am I- huh?” He wasn’t used to that question being pointed at him. “Oh- uh, yeah.” He shook off his confusion, refocusing on the problem at hand. “Right, look, you can’t go past here, there is way too much radiation for you to safely be near. I need to go ahead and dispose of it. Wait here.”
“Jack-”
“Please?” He glanced around, spotting a janitor closet a few paces back. “If something happens you can take cover in there?”
After a long moment Gazerbeam sighed, “fine, just be quick?”
“Of course!” He grinned, glad to not have the usual level of pushback. “Back in a sec!”
He took care of the material as fast as he could, wanting to hurry up and get back to Gazerbeam. Wait what? He paused, registering the thought. Since when we he so eager to be near Gazerbeam? It must just be that he was still trying to convince him he wasn’t dangerous. Or more so not when pointed towards him.
He was just depleting the energy from the last radioactive crystal when he heard a conversation. He quickly hid, staying out of sight and within earshot.
“We need to hurry, heroes have infiltrated the facility.”
“How can you be certain?”
“Because one of them knocked down the east wall!” Mr. Incredible. “There are reports that one is in the west wall. You are to gather a team and take. Him. Down!”
The race back to Gazerbeam was made in what seemed like record time. Somehow it still wasn’t fast enough. He slammed into the man, clamping over his mouth as he grabbed him tight and pulled him into the nearby janitor closet. What he hadn’t realised was how small it was, he near instantly had Gazerbeam pressed between himself and a wall.
After taking a moment to shut the door and press the lock button Gamma Jack glanced around, searching for a better place to hide in case they came in. He ignored Gazerbeam’s confusion, spotting a small gap in the wall. It was big enough to fit in while keeping several mops and a bucket between them and the actual closet. It was perfect.
Ignoring the look of bewilderment and apprehension on Gazerbeam's face he pulled them into the narrow crevice, freeing one hand to pull the nearby bucket of mops to cover them.
“No time to explain, stay quiet.” He quickly tugged at his cape, pulling it away from the opening. It was times like this that made him hate his bright yellow. “Shit, it’s too bright.”
“Here,” he pulled off his glove opposite the opening, removing it and swiftly placing it on Gamma Jacks, keeping both of their hands covered. He then raised a hand, pressing it to the wall next to the other's face before turning his own away from the entrance.
They both held their breaths as they heard footsteps approaching.
It wasn’t even a minute before the closet door slammed open, a man stepping in and scanning the closet with extreme precision. They could feel his gaze linger on their hiding spot, questioning it, but were relieved to hear a loud bang draw the man away.
They stayed in place for another moment, waiting to see if he’d return. Just as Gamma Jack went to move Gazerbeams hand shot out, grabbing his shoulder and shaking his head, silently mouthing the word no.
They waited, quite, comfortable. Gamma Jack was bored. And sore. His body was stiff from trying to keep some distance between himself and the other. Slowly he stopped, allowing himself to press against Gazerbeam. The other didn’t flinch, but he didn’t move away either. That gave him a weird feeling in his chest, a warmth that he hadn’t felt in ages. He didn’t recognise it, but he knew he liked it.
He let out a small exhale, his hands moving away from Gazerbeams waist.
“We should rejoin with the others,” he rested a head forward, knocking their heads together. “If they’ve been found they might need help.”
“How’d they know we were in the building?”
“Mr. Incredible,” he rolled his eyes, drawing a chuckle from the other. “He knocked down a whole ass wall.”
“And he’s still wondering why we don’t want him alone on stealth missions?”
“I know, right.” He blinked, long and slow. Shifting away from the man to move the mops and bucket. “C’mon, then.”
Arriving back at the fork the only person there was Elastigirl, who was not looking like a happy camper.
“What, don’t you like being proved right?” He let out a small laugh, it sounded hollow to his ears.
“Not right now,” she huffed, rolling her eyes as they turned to the empty corridor. “We should go help them not get caught.”
Mr. Incredible was throwing a tank when they arrived. Frozone was complaining loudly while freezing people up to their waists.
“I told you not to knock down that wall!”
“I know! I got it covered!”
“No! You don’t!”
“Well then that’s why you're helping me!”
“BOYS!” Elastigirl shot her arms out, grabbing their shoulders and turning them towards herself. “We need to get out of here! Now!”
“No need, it's fine here, everything’s fine!” He took one look at his partner's face before he started backpedaling. “On second thought, yeah, we should go!”
“Wow.” Frozone huffed, running past Gamma Jack as he ran for the exit. “He doesn’t listen to me but when she says so? She walks that boy like a dog.”
~~~
They fell back into that familiar rhythm, going on missions together, fighting together. Gamma Jack did his best to only kill when Gazerbeam was out of sight and earshot.
He still knew somehow.
His eyes still held that glimmer of fear.
~~~
Their villain of the day was a man whose power got to his head. He had flight and superstrength, not quite Mr. Incredible level strength, but enough to make people do what he wanted when he wanted.
They did their usual move, Gamma Jack keeping the villain occupied while the other got civilians to safety. That tended to make the villains think Gazerbeam was weaker. He wasn’t, but that didn’t mean Gamma Jack wasn’t keeping an eye on him, ready to protect when needed.
What he didn’t expect was the villain making him choose.
The man picked up a large slab of rubble and threw it. It hit a section of the building above Gazerbeam, colliding and snapping off a section of the roof. The two chunks started toppling down, one headed directly for a rather gorgeous young lady, while the other… plummeted towards Gazerbeam.
He didn’t think.
Didn’t consider his options.
Gamma Jack shot forward, grasping his target tightly in his arms bridal style, grinning softly to help calm their nerves. He softly deposited them on the roof before rocketing back for the other. He took a second to make sure they were both okay before finishing the fight, slamming the villain through a building, knocking him out cold. A member of the NSA took him over, clasping a collar around his neck and pulling him into a van.
When he touched back down on the roof the lady immediately clambered to get his attention, talking about how she was a huge fan and was so honoured to have met him. It didn’t feel as good as it usually did. All he could look at was Gazerbeam, all he could think about was the expression on his face.
“Awh, thanks, doll.” He smiled at her before nodding to Gazerbeam. “I’m sorry, but my partner and I need to debrief, you should go let your family know you’re safe. It was a delight to save you.”
She squealed in joy before running to leave down the stairs, leaving the two heroes alone.
“Are you okay?” His tone was softer than it had been with the girl. “You weren’t hit by anything were you?”
“No, no.” Gazerbeam shifted on his feet, coming closer to Gamma Jack, seemingly studying his face. “I’m fine, thanks to you.”
“That,” he nodded, not sure what to think, “that’s good.”
“Why?” Gazerbeam spoke after a moment, his confusion clear in his tone.
“Why what?”
“Why’d you do it?” He was lost, not sure of what the man meant. “Why’d you save me first?”
~~~
He had no idea.
Well that wasn’t true, he had a small taste of one, one that didn’t seem to make sense.
What he had no idea about was why he had been avoiding him.
He knew it couldn’t last.
~~~
There was a knock on his door. He hadn’t been expecting anyone?
It took him a moment to get to the door, but when he opened it, he wished he hadn’t instantly.
“Simon?”
“So you are Gamma Jack then?”
“What?”
“You do realise I’ve never met your civilian identity before?” Simon had a small smile on his face as Jack face-palmed. “Can I come in?”
“No!” He was quick to answer, startling Simon. “Can you just, please, just go away?”
“Why?”
“I- I’m sick.” He hurried to answer swiftly, “you don’t want to get sick, now do you?”
“I’m pretty sure you can’t get sick.” He began pushing gently at the door, “let me in, Jack.”
“Simon…”
“Please?” Who was he to say no?
His living room was a bit of a mess, much like the rest of his house, but Simon didn’t seem to care. He turned to Jack, who was bracing for bad news.
“You didn’t answer my question the other day?” He smiled softly, tilting his head like he knew something the other didn’t. “I’m not saying you have to.”
“Yeah, well I don’t really want to.” He rolled his eyes going to cross his arms when Simon grabbed his hands, pulling him towards the couch. “What are you doing?”
“Sitting down,” he raised an eyebrow, “thought that was kinda obvious.”
“Shut up,” he mumbled, joining him on the couch, but keeping their hands together. He chose not to think about that.
Simon reached for the TV remote, flicking it on and switching it over to some movie. “You okay with watching this?” He mused, acting like everything was normal.
“Sure?”
“M’kay.” He leaned back, pulling to rest Jack's head on his chest, still holding his hand. His free hand began to knead softly through the blonde locks before him, as if it were second nature. “Missed you at work this week.”
“Yeah?” He studied the face above him, hope flickering behind his eyes.
“Yeah.”
They stayed like that for a moment, before Jack finally got the courage to break the comfortable silence between them.
“Why were you so confused that I saved you first?” He knew why he himself was questioning it, but he had to know if Simon had come to the same conclusion. “Why did you look at me like that when I did?”
“Like what?”
“Like-” he paused, trying to place the expression. “I don’t know. It’s a new one for me.”
“Jack-”
“Can you please just answer the question?”
“Will you answer mine after?”
“Hmpf.” He went to complain or roll his eyes, but Simon started rubbing circles on his hand with his thumb. “Yeah. Yeah, sure, I guess.”
“Thank you.”
“Oh shut up.”
“But I thought you wanted me to answer your question?”
“I hate you.”
“Nah,” he tilted his head, smiling down at the man, “I don’t think you do.” He avoided eye contact. “That’s actually part of my answer.”
“Hm?”
“Why I think you saved me.” They could barely hear the TV, letting it fade into background noise as their conversation turned serious. “You’ve said several times, including during an interview, that you save the pretty ones first. You had to choose between me and a clearly stunning lady. You chose me.”
“What, I can't think a guy’s pretty?”
“It’s me we’re talking about here.”
“And you- you have-” he looked up, eyes locking onto Simon's deep brown ones. He paused for a moment studying the different tones. As he watched they began to glow red, dark brown changing hue to crimson before he blinked and turned his head, rapidly blinking. “Eyes.”
“Huh?”
“Your eyes.” He reached his own free hand up, carefully turning the man's face back towards his own. “They're stunning. I love them.”
“You do?” He blinked as his gaze refixed to Jack’s, now filled with what he could only describe as joy. “Is that a confession?”
“You wish-”
“I do.”
“Huh?”
“You need sleep,” he smiled, bent down and pressed a soft kiss to Jack’s lips before getting up and going to leave. “See you tomorrow, we have a recon mission,” he paused at the threshold, smiling back at the flabbergasted man. “Only us.”
~~~
Slowly their bond grew, before they felt comfortable enough to officially agree that they were dating. While Simon may have made the first move, and a bold one at that, Jack was the one to plan their first date.
Slowly Gamma Jack started pulling away from his ‘fans’ attention, still being possessive over Gazerbeam whenever someone approached him. There was an uproar when they announced that they were dating, many fans refusing to accept their relationship. They didn’t care, however, their friends were supportive. Frozone claimed to have known all along, Mr. Incredible being as clueless as ever and Elastigirl, who had found out by asking directly, all were proud of their friends.
Eventually they began going on triple dates, together with Bob and Helen, Lucius and Honey. They stayed together, all sticking as friends even when superheroes were forced underground.
When Bob and Helen had their first child, a baby girl, they were all extremely happy. Meanwhile Lucius and Honey decided to stay child free.
Simon and Jack, however, decided to adopt. Taking in young supers to raise as their own.
When Mirage appeared, telling them they had a chance to become supers again, they chose to ignore it. They chose their family. Together.
