Chapter Text
Bloodmoon had his eye on some sort of small avian, his hungered gaze watching each of its shifts and movements while in the cover of shadow. He had never been particularly good at species recognition, as far as he was concerned, they all held blood in those tiny bodies.
Some feather adjustments, a shift of weight on its branch, and a small hop before it was taking flight with a swoop to start momentum.
Bloodmoon lunged, quick to snatch the creature up in his claws. The bird screeched a pathetic call as it was dragged down, trapped in between two cruel palms.
The two would much rather be hunting bigger targets, humans especially. They were much more fun to torment... these smaller creatures were just so simple, their fear only displayed with their frantic trembling and flailing.
...Hm. This bird wasn't doing that. It had been awfully loud on its way down, so much so that he'd considered letting the annoying thing go, But once Bloodmoon had settled with his catch, it was still and silent. Had the small creature's heart stopped already? After such a small scare?
Bloodmoon curiously opened his hands, slowly letting light leak through while caging the bird in with his face right up against the new opening.
The bird was huddled as far away as it could be, staring up at Bloodmoon with beady black eyes, its beak agape while it desperately drew in breaths. The thing's lungs must have been much too tiny to feel the movements from.
Now that they were both still, Bloodmoon took notice of the creatures smaller details. It was a common bluebird. Vibrant, and small. So very fragile.
It was primarily blue, but a spot of brown covered its bust. And underneath, white feathers. His eyes also caught the small speck of yellow that sat at the corners of its beak that he never would have picked up on if not for the silent observing.
"It will be much easier to kill than it was to catch, which was hardly a challenge." One hummed.
Despite this comment, neither of them moved to devour the thing, or start plucking at its tiny body. They simply observed, a slow blink encouraging a small scramble from the bluebird.
The creatures shallow breaths and small fearful chirps didn't entertain their sadistic nature. They hardly felt any joy from this at all, in fact the only excitement they held had been during their pounce. But they had killed woodland creatures before... Hundreds, even! What about this bird made them feel anything at all? They wouldn't be able to put these feelings into words even if they tried.
Bloodmoon moved, sitting back on the heels of his feet. Their hands opened wider, and in turn, the entrance they had been blocking.
Everything was still, everything but the forest swaying and shifting with the wind. The bird seemed hesitant, or unaware of its freedom. After all, the big beast that held it was staring it down.
He was growing impatient with the motionless staring contest, one of fascination and the other, more exposed one, of terror. Barely interrupted or affected by their occasional blinking.
"Move, brainless creature!" One barked. "No survival instincts." The other grumbled. This was plenty to have the bluebird stumbling and scrambling into the air, frantically flapping its little wings and getting away in a matter of seconds.
They watched it go.

"Back so soon?" Foxy looked over his shoulder to the twins who seemed to have returned from their hunt in the forest empty-handed. They were always messy, that was for certain, but he didn't notice any blood or... even a crease in their outfit. They weren't known for cleaning themselves up either, unless they were caked in gore. And even then, it was a simple roll in the river they deemed plenty, which usually resulted in a necessary hose-down, much to their dismay. He was surprised they had agreed to the terms of only killing woodland creatures. Especially without any bribing. And honestly? It seemed they couldn't wrap their head around it either.
They only huffed at his question, shoving past him to return to the little modern hut they had been sleeping in each night. They didn't want a conversation right now, the two of them hated socialising when confused and frustrated at their emotions. Foxy didn't seem to get the memo, following them after a sigh that they absolutely heard. "What? Were you not able to keep up with the animals? That's funny, you don't have issues like that, usually."
Extremely intelligent observation. They thought with an eye roll, serving the other animatronic a nasty glare.
"Stop talking to us, you are bothering." They spoke bluntly, settling on a sofa with a cats likeness.
"Well, if you're still hungry you're welcome to go for the fish out front." He gestured towards the ocean outside, which the twins followed only to be looking at a wall. "...Those creatures are much smaller and faster than the ones we hunt." Bloodmoon informed with a scowl. "And slippery." His twin added.
Foxy only shrugged, well aware he was overstaying the welcome he wasn't even given, not waiting any longer to leave. "Just get something to eat, you're my responsibility." He stated simply, making sure to be particularly direct since they understood better that way.
Neither of them responded, curling into a different position while grumbling out their irritation to themselves. They could feel their insides itch with hunger, nothing unfamiliar.
