Summary:

This is a collection of thirty one oneshots for each day of October.

The prompts are from the Weak Hero Discord.

Chapter 1: Ashes/Urn

Chapter Text

Donald Na couldn't move at all.

He could hear muffled sounds, mostly footsteps and words that he couldn't decipher.

He could see nothing but darkness.

At the same time, he was aware of what he was. He was aware of being ashes. Yet, he was unable to do anything.

He wondered if this is normal for everyone who was cremated. He hoped not because it meant his mother was trapped like this. It meant that his mother was aware of him never visiting her urn.

Donald Na had never felt so helpless in life (or is it in death?) and can do nothing but remain conscious. He wasn't even sure if he could fall unconscious.

He could hear sobbing, but he wasn't sure if it was from someone visiting his urn or someone visiting an urn nearby. Donald thought it was highly unlikely anyone would visit him. Why would they? He wasn't close to anyone.

He was Donald Na, Emperor of Yeongdeungpo, an undefeated legend who had no one but himself. And now, he was reduced to a pile of ashes.

Chapter 2: Ghoul/Zombie

Chapter Text

"Hey Kingsley," Jake asked when he returned to Yeongdeungpo for his second year of high school. "Donald Na was cremated, right?"

"Yes, he was," Kingsley nodded as he handed the files out to the school heads since Jake happened to drop by during an Union executive meeting. "Why are you asking the obvious?"

"Can ashes be infected by a zombie virus?" Jake innocently asked.

"First of all, zombies do not exist," Kingsley deadpanned. "The closest thing we have are cordyceps,"

"So...can cordyceps infect ashes and turn them into a zombie?" Jake rephrased his question. "Hypothetically, of course,"

"Jake, what are you talking about?" Kingsley sighed. "And no, they can't,"

"So...I was visiting the columbarium where Donald's ashes were stored," Jake slowly told him. "And they were overrun by zombies. High fences were built around the columbarium and the government seemed to want to keep a low profile, but I managed to sneak Donald and his mother out of there,"

"Jake, are you on drugs?" Forrest flat out asked.

"Of course you would ask about drugs," Jimmy mumbled.

"I'm not high!" Forrest denied. "My eyes just get dry easily! And what Jake said is even crazier than what he normally talks about!"

Jake walked out of the room and came back quickly with Donald Na who was indeed the textbook definition of a zombie. The main difference was that he wasn't lunging at any of them, trying to eat their brains.

"My mom and I live off of eating pig brains now," Donald said, speech perfectly clear as it had been when he had been human. "The guy running the columbarium was apparently a mad scientist. I don't know why he experimented on ashes instead of corpses, but somehow it regenerated our bodies and now we're zombies,"

"DONALD!" Kingsley hugged Donald tightly. "I missed you!"

"I missed you too," Donald hugged him back. "Since my mom's also zombified, it looks like you're going to get to meet your mother-in-law after all,"

Chapter 3: Amputate

Chapter Text

"I'm sorry, but Kenny Ji's leg was too damaged to be saved. We had to amputate it,"

Jake Ji's entire world was spinning and he fell backwards. Fortunately, Dean Kwon was there to catch him. He dragged him over to the seat next to Kenny's bed.

Jake's eyes were fixated on where Kenny's leg should have been. But no, it really was gone. There were no two leg shapes beneath the blankets, only one. Kenny no longer had his left leg.

He couldn't hold his tears back. They silently streamed down his face. Dean placed a comforting hand on his friend's shoulder and also cried.

To damage a leg beyond saving meant they had to have gone way too far. Jake decided then and there that he'd make Changyeon Lee and all of Manwol pay. None of them were going to get away unscathed.

Chapter 4: Hypnotize

Chapter Text

Hypnosis was something that neither Kingsley Kwan nor Donald Na believed in. However, they were both so desperate at this point.

Donald Na has been having recurring nightmares to the point where he hardly slept. Although he was already used to working on little sleep, he was reaching his breaking point and had nearly fallen down the stairs. Fortunately, Jake Ji had been there and had caught him in time.

It was also Jake who had suggested hypnosis. He even recommended the therapist who help Kenny with his nightmares from the night Manwol beat him up badly.

Kingsley accompanied his boyfriend to his appointment with the hypnotherapist as support. His eyes remained completely focused on Donald as the latter listened to the doctor's instructions.

When they got home, Donald was able to successfully fall asleep without any nightmares. It was only a temporary cure and he'd need to go back every once in a while, but it was good enough for them.

Chapter 5: Superhuman/Inhuman

Chapter Text

"Are we sure you're human?" Jake Ji asked Donald Na out of the blue one day.

"Jake," Donald deadpanned. "We're in the middle of a meeting. Save your stupid questions until afterwards so that I can ignore you,"

"I mean, you're crazy strong," Jake continued. "Some would even say superhuman strong. Heck, some of them would even call you inhuman!"

"I am not a vampire," Donald told him. "I'm albino,"

"Are both your parents humans?" Jake inquired.

"My mother was a hundred percent human," Donald sighed, knowing that Jake wasn't going to get back on topic until after the conversation was over. "I've never met my father but I'm pretty sure he was human too,"

"What if he wasn't?" Jake pointed out. "He could be from one of those many races that for some reason look identical to humans,"

"Jake," Donald's tone was deadly calm now. "If you are insisting my mother fucked an alien, I will throw you out this window,"

Jake shut up after that threat and the meeting resumed.

Chapter 6: Pierce

Chapter Text

"You really don't need to get your ears pierced just to match with me," Donald Na told his boyfriend, Gray Yeon. "You don't need earrings,"

"I know that you got your tattoos and piercings just to look intimidating," Gray said. "But I don't find them disgusting at all. I'm not bothered getting my ear pierced so that we can each have a matching earring,"

"We can just wear matching rings or necklaces," Donald suggested. "Nothing that needs you to get a hole in your ear,"

"I really don't mind getting a piercing," Gray tilted his head. "Donald, if it really bothers you this much though, we can go with the matching rings or necklaces,"

"I don't want you to get body modifications for my sake," Donald quietly said. "The beginning signs of my stepfather abusing my mother was him controlling her appearance. He forced her to look a certain way, wear certain clothing, style her hair a certain way...When she didn't follow, that's when it eventually led to physical abuse,"

Gray hugged his boyfriend tightly and Donald rested his head on Gray's shoulder.

"You have plenty of earrings and rings already," Gray said. "So let's get those matching necklaces you were talking about,"

Chapter 7: Frankenstein (The Scientist)

Chapter Text

"I get that trauma changes people," Jake said. "But Kingsley, I think you seriously need to go to therapy! This Victor Frankenstein vibe doesn't suit you at all!"

"I had Donald's brain removed from his body and preserved," Kingsley brought out a large jar with the mentioned body part.

"Isn't that grave robbing!?" Jake exclaimed.

"No because it wasn't from his grave," Kingsley claimed. "I spent years collecting body parts so that I could build Donald a new body,"

"Kingsley, I may not be as smart as you or Donald but even I know that's not how it works," Jake quickly sent a text to Dean to help him drag Kingsley to a mental hospital.

"IT WILL WORK!" Kingsley loudly declared. "I WILL CREATE LIFE! I WILL BRING MY DONALD BACK TO LIFE!"

"Uh huh...Sure thing, buddy,"

Chapter 8: Moon

Chapter Text

Kenny Ji feared the moon.

He would do his best to never show it in front of his brother and his friend, but just the sight of the moon terrified him. It reminded him too much of Manwol's logo. Changyeon Lee had the moon on the back of his jacket.

Kenny Ji could handle crescent moons, but not full moons. He'd avert his gaze and intentionally look more towards the ground rather than the sky during those nights.

He had been prepared to get beaten up badly by his former gang, but he didn't expect to be traumatized by it. He didn't expect to suffer from this long-lasting fear.

Kenny clenched his eyes shut and wondered if he deserved this. Was this karma for all the innocent people he had hurt in the past?

Chapter 9: Crunch

Chapter Text

"That sickening crunch when Donald stomped on my leg still sometimes haunts me," Myles Joo said while he worked on his physical therapy.

"I don't blame you," Kenny nodded in agreement. "You've known the guy for five years and he upped and demoted you. He could've just let Kingsley be in a managerial position but still left you as second-in-command,"

"What about you?" Myles asked. "Does the sound of your ankle bone breaking not haunt you? Weren't you friends with some of the members of Manwol?"

"Honestly, I think the sound of the wooden beam breaking against my leg was louder," Kenny told him. "And I was friends with Changyeon and some of the others. I've been there since the very beginning. I didn't even mind that he reduced me to a low ranked executive instead of a higher ranked one. I guess that friendship was one-sided after all,"

"I guess we both had shitty friends," Myles hummed.

"You better not be considering the Manwol guys you're in charge of as your friends," Kenny warned. "Trust me, they will not hesitate to betray you if it means gaining more power,"

Chapter 10: Necropolis

Chapter Text

"Kingsley, why am I here?" Donald Na deadpanned as he and the others walked down the rugged path. "And who's idea was it to randomly select students from the Yeongdeungpo schools to attend this field trip?"

"The school admin thought it would help foster good relations between schools," Kingsley Kwan answered.

"Where is this stupid field trip even to?" Wolf grumbled. "We've been walking for hours,"

"I heard we're going to a newly discovered necropolis," Forrest said.

"Necropolis?" Jimmy asked. "What the fuck is that?"

"A large cemetery with tomb monuments," Jake answered.

"What moron thinks it's a good idea to let a bunch of teenage delinquents around a newly discovered cemetery!?" Donald shook his head. "I swear adults are getting dumber and dumber,"
