Lucky
It had been pure luck that the bullet missed him, a slight slip of his foot on a rock laying on a roof that caused it to whiz by him. He could smell something on it so he immediately dove for cover as a second shot rang out. He crouched down out of sight and listened and heard her being lectured. He should have known that she’d show up here, he should have known it was inevitable that the mistakes from the past were going to come back like a bad penny.
He considered forgetting the Alpha and just heading back to where he and Laura had been living but he couldn’t leave his sister un-avenged he owed her that much since he’d never told her the truth. He had a thought then and perhaps he would get a chance to settle with Kate after all. He crawled to the edge of the roof keeping his head down. He saw Kate and Argent leave and then he saw him that poor idiot Scott was there. He really needed to figure out how to get through to him because with Kate in town it was going to be a lot more likely that his fixation on Allison was going to get him killed.
He supposed he could tell the kid everything maybe show him Peter let him see what the Argents were really like but he wasn’t sure it would work. He had known what Hunters were like back then but he’d still fallen for Kate’s lies and Scott didn’t seem any smarter than he’d been.
He made his way down and caught up with the kid who was clearly trying to get home in a hurry. “You got very lucky,” he said to Scott when he caught up with him. He saw the kid look uncomfortable but also stubborn.
“I think you’re the one that got lucky she tried to shoot you,” Scott said after a moment. “Did she mistake you for the Alpha?” He should have known the kid was still stubbornly trying to find a reason to trust the Argents cause of the girl.
“She knew exactly what she was doing,” he said making an effort not to sound too harsh judging by the kids’ face he failed. “The bullet was also probably poisoned so I’d have died a slow death if it hit me at all.” He enjoyed the kid’s shocked expression. “When are you going to realize to them your no better than an animal to put down to them?” He almost brought up that Allison would be the one doing it probably but he stopped himself. “I’ll show you exactly what they are like tomorrow after school.” He would take him to see Peter that might finally get through them to let him see what they’d done. He just wouldn’t do it now because he had no doubt the Hunters would be out looking for the alpha tonight after it attacked Kate.
The End
