The Line That Didn't Cross

Summary:

The only thing Gi-Hun wanted was to have ended those games, but now he turned to killing someone...

What happened to him...?

"Gi-Hud, don't kill him," echoed a voice in Gi-Hun's head. "You're not like them,"

It was Sae-byeok's voice, this was one of the last lines Gi-Hun heard from Sae-byeok before she was killed by Sangwoo, it was the last night until the next game, but Sawngwoo knew that he would vote to leave because of her and he wouldn't get any of the money, in the end he sacrificed himself so that Gi-Hun could win, he had formed an alliance with Sae-byeok that night; he promised her he would take care of his younger brother and bring his mother; he didn't kill Sangwoo last night because of her, now what was he doing ...?

The knife fell from Gi-Hun's hand, Daeho even stopped shaking when he saw player 456's face and the knife falling from his hand.

"Gi-Hun... are you... well?"

And if Gi-Hun hadn't killed Daeho and Myunggi hadn't killed Hyun-ju in the keys and knives game, how would the story happen, would they get to the last game?

Notes:

Okay, I'm a little addicted to Squid Game, so why not write a fanfic about one and if, well you saw in the summary how it is, you understand, just one detail is that this fanfic focuses more on the ship DaeHee than on the ship 457 (it has crumbs of that ship), both are my favorite ships in Squid Game, but I promise I will make a fanfic focused on them.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: Between the Knife and the Promise

Chapter Text

"Sorry, sorry" murmured Daeho crying while Gi-Hun held him by the collar with the desire to kill him, since the rebellion, he blamed Daeho for not bringing ammunition, which caused the death of some players and his best friend, only he, Daeho and Hyunju survived.

The only thing Gi-Hun wanted was to have ended those games, but now he turned to killing someone...

What happened to him...?

"Gi-Hun, don't kill him," echoed a voice in Gi-Hun's head. "You're not like them,"

It was Sae-byeok's voice, this was one of the last lines Gi-Hun heard from Sae-byeok before she was killed by Sangwoo, it was the last night until the next game, but Sawngwoo knew that he would vote to leave because of her and he wouldn't get any of the money, in the end he sacrificed himself so that Gi-Hun could win, he had formed an alliance with Sae-byeok that night; he promised her he would take care of his younger brother and bring her mother to Korea; he didn't kill Sangwoo last night because of her, now what was he doing ...?

The knife fell from Gi-Hun's hand, Daeho even stopped shaking when he saw player 456's face and the knife falling from his hand.

"Gi-Hun... are you... well?"

Player 456 looked at player 338. He didn't believe what he was going to do. He was going to kill... someone.

"Daeho... me, not what's going on... with me..."

"Gi-Hun, what?"

"I promised... that I would save everyone from here... end the games... but since the rebellion... I can't..."

Gi-Hun dropped Daeho's shirt, which made player 338 move away, but approached player 456.

"Gi-Hun, it was my fault, I was going to bring the ammunition, but I was... scared... I didn't..." muttered Daeho, almost crying.

"... did you have an anxiety crisis..?"

"Yes..."

"So it wasn't your fault, you had an anxiety crisis," said Gu-Hun, taking his necklace off the key, giving it to Daeho's hand "Use this to get to the exit"

"But and... you?"

"I'll be fine, now run to the exit and be careful"

Daeho put Gi-Hun's key necklace together with his key, then went up the stairs carefully, took a look back, feeling sorry for Gi-Hun wondering what would happen to him, if he didn't kill anyone, Gi-Hun would be killed, but continued.

While Gi-Hun watched Daeho following, but he barely knew he was being watched by the Frontman, Frontman knew that Gi-Hun couldn't kill anyone, so he took the walkie-talkie:

"Get player 456, he can't be eliminated"

"Yes, sir"

Frontman turned off the walkie-talkie, still looking at Gi-Hun leaving, still watching player 456, with a look of obsession.

Jun-hee, Hyun-ju and Geum-ja followed to the exit along with Jun-hee's baby, who had just given birth in the middle of the game, Geum-ja took the baby while player 120 helped player 222, who had broken her leg while they were running, they were very lucky because Hyun-ju had defended the two of two men fighting and Myung-gi had entered the room where they were because he saw Hyun-ju enter, who had returned because she had found the exit, but as soon as he saw Jun-hee holding the baby, he closed the door and pretended that he had not seen anything, after all he had already He had passed the phase because he had already killed someone, but he was with damage to kill more people, so the prize would increase, but Myung-gi had promised to help Jun-hee.

That's when they heard a noise. Soon Hyun-ju positioned herself in front to protect the three, but then they saw Daeho, who was scared.

"Are you okay, Daeho?" Jun-hee asked, limping at him.

"I'm trying to find the way out," Daeho replied desperately, but calmed down when he saw they would not kill him. After all, they weren't from the red team.

"Well, we found the way out. Do you want to come with us?" Geum-ja asked, holding the baby. As much as he was a little scared, the old lady smiled.

"Okay, thank you very much" replied Daeho, almost crying "let me help you Jun-hee" while picking up Jun-hee, Hyun-ju guided them to the exit, making the same path again.

When they arrived at the exit door, Hyun-ju took her key with Jun-hee's and Geum-ja's, she turned the first key, but the 4 heard a noise of footsteps, Hyun-ju turned to soon start defending herself, but when Geum-ja already turned around, he widened his eyes; it was his son, Yong-sik, he had promised her he would try to kill a person and protect her.

"My son," murmured the old lady.

Yong-sik entered the room, pointing the knife, staring at Jun-hee and her baby.

"No," said Geum-ja, approaching his son. "Don't do that"

"Mom... I'm sorry, I couldn't kill anyone," murmured Yong-sik crying.

"It's okay my son, kill me," said Geum-ja, taking his son's hands, putting his knife close to his chest. " Kill me, I've lived a lot in this life, go son, kill me. So everything is resolved and you stay alive with Jun-hee, her baby, Hyun-ju and Dae-ho,"

Yong-sik cried even more. He didn't want to do it with her, with his own mother, the same woman who gave birth to him, who supported, even entered the games just to pay his own son's debt.

Gi-Hun was sitting, near a dead body, he probably couldn't escape and ended up being stabbed, he unfortunately couldn't kill anyone, he knew he was going to die, but at least he helped Dae-ho by giving him his key, he knew it wasn't his fault after hearing his side, but his own, he who had the idea.

He promised he would end the games, stop all that greed, but look where he was. He had even seen his best friend being killed in front of him; players died in the rebellion.

It 's my fault.

That's what was in Gi-Hun's head. He no longer felt what he should do, nor did he deserve to be alive anymore. He no longer belonged to this world.

"It's my fault," murmured player 456 crying.

He only had something to be done, he took the knife they gave him to kill the players, put it on his neck and began to lightly scrape on his skin, when he heard a shot towards the knife, which made the object fall from his hands, when he turned to see, a guard hit his head with a gun that made him faint.

"We did it. What do we do with him now?" asked the guard on the walkie-talkie.

"Put him back in the dormitory with the others," replied the Frontman on the walkie-talkie.

... something was wrong.

Jun-hee, Hyun-ju, Daeho looked at a moment in which they would never forget. They saw with their own eyes Geum-ja with Yong-sik's hand and knife, while the two cried and sobbed.

"No, like me..." sobbed Yong-sik crying, "How am I going to do this to you?"

"My son, my son, listen to me." Geum-ja shouted "Look, okay... it's okay, okay? Go, you can kill me."

That's when Jun-hee saw the keys, looked at Dae-ho and Hyun-ju. The three stared and understood. They took one last look at the two.

"You can kill me."

"I can't."

"It kills me. Go away! Please, son, stop. Let them kill me."

Before one of the three succeeded, Yong-sik pushed his mother and advanced on the three, pushing Hyun-ju and Dae-ho, who screamed because his leg was hurt, Jun-hee tried to open the door, but Yong-sik closed it and faced Jun-hee and her daughter, who cried, the two looked at the newborn baby, but returned to face Jun-hee, who was now very scared.

"I'm sorry" sobbed Yong-sik moaning, pointing his knife.

That's when he felt a strange pain in his back, the knife fell and he got dizzy, when he turned around, he saw his mother standing, that's when he understood everything, his mother had a knife that held her hair, she used it to protect herself, but she just used it on her own son ...

"Mom..."

Geum-ja was shaking while crying, he just did the last thing he would do with his own son, kill him, Hyun-ju and Dae-ho looked at that crying, Jun-hee also started crying.

Geum-ja and Yong-sik stared at each other, crying. That's when the timer beeped. It meant that the game was over.

"Mom, I... sorry," murmured Yong-sik. His mother came to him and hugged him, crying, sobbing at the same time.

Geum-ja couldn't stop crying, she had entered that game just to pay her son's debts, her only son, her Yong-sik, the same one she took to the hospital the same night she fought with him, who even committing things she didn't like, he was still her little boy.

That's when the old lady turned around and saw two guards pointing guns at her son. One approached.

"No! No! Spare my son!" Geum-ja shouted while the guard approached. "I was the one who attacked him!" The guards didn't even listen, they just shot him, until he fainted and died, while she cried.

"Player 7, eliminated,"
