Work Text:

Heinrich Schwarzkopf:

Heinrich had drunk two bottles of Cognac, leaning on the floor of the room. There’s an illness in the air. A horrible sickness. There’s the scent of blood, and he can’t get the image of the children out of his head. This was really too much. It’s too frightening. He looked up at Weiss, who had not a furrow on his face. Sometimes Heinrich wonders how he does it; how he can pretend that everything is all right and fine after seeing the most horrifying, tangible images right in front of him. There’s no guessing what he’s thinking; he never shows an ounce of emotion. Was it always like this? He seems to remember him being much warmer back in Riga.

Johann reached his gloved hand to Heinrich’s gun holster and took his pistol.

“I don’t want you killing yourself or shooting anyone that comes in.” He said with all the calmness in the world, as if it was just another Saturday evening. Then he locked him in before he left.

Alexander Belov:

Bile rose up to Alexander’s throat. Through their striped uniform, you could see the children’s little bodies, thin as branches. Each scrambling to persuade the visitors, clad in black, with skull caps, of their worth so the fascist won’t send them to their death. He hasn’t been practising healthy habits when it comes to sleeping or eating. ‘Well, Alexander!’ He thought to himself, ‘You shall eat a good meal once you get back. The entire operation relies on you.’ He tossed his gaze at Heinrich, who returned the favour. Belov could sense his desperation and terror. He was frightfully drunk, but not more than usual, he supposed.

“It’s too scary!” He said. “Humans are all louses. We shall annihilate everyone from Earth like vermin!”

But no less suicidal than last time either. Alexander feared he would actually fulfil this promise, and he couldn't imagine the consequences of this, so he leapt and hurried to remove the gun from his body. The corporal called for him. He quickly left and made sure to lock Heinrich in before; he wouldn't become an obstacle that way. Remember, Belov, patience. Soon, we’ll be able to liberate Germany.
