Chapter Text
There I was, bounded. If I would take a guess I think to a hot conduit. My head was throbbing like crazy. How long have I been sitting here? Every time I tried to relax my body I ended up touching the hot conduit and did I push my body forwards. Which made the ropes my body was bounded with cut deeper in my body. It was dark before my eyes. The only thing I could do was listen to the noises around me. From what I could hear I was alone in this room, It was very quiet. The only thing I could hear was something dripping next to me. Tsss “AUW!” Again I pushed my body away from the conduit. My back felt raw wand painfully from the heat. Suddenly I could hear noises. Yelling voices. Screaming. I couldn’t place what was happening. Suddenly I heard a door being slammed open. Was that here? I heard footsteps fast nearing me. My blindfold was being removed from my eyes. Slowly I opened my eyes, I was looking straight into bright green eyes of a boy. “Tris, is everything okay?” He wiped away some smut by my eyes. I reached with my eyes at the same spot and looked at my hand. Blood. I looked beside me where I had heard the dripping, there was a little poodle of blood. So that was where the dripping noise came from. The boy cut my ropes that had bounded me and looked at me. “Are you okay?” I looked at the boy again and quickly let my eyes trail him. His bright green eyes were the first thing I noticed, it were warm familiar eyes. His hair was blond with some purple locks mixed in it. His left ear was full with earrings. He pulled me on my feet and did not let go. He pulled to a long, but when we went through the first corner I stopped. My feet were nailed to the floor. The hallway was colored with blood and there lay some body parts from humans and big dogs. “What has happened here?” My voice sounded shaky. The boy looked at me and said “They were in my way.” I looked at him again. A stab of pain went through my head and I sagged through my knees. The boy walked at one of the dogs and pulled a arrow out of it. I looked at the dog, no not a dog. It was a large animal. What was that monster? The boy pulled me up and covered my eyes while he was leading me through the maze of body’s. Before I knew it he pushed a door open and we were outside. My eyes were blinded by the bright light. Slowly I could separate the blue sky. When I blinked my eyes I could see how gray and disbanded the city was where we stood. “It’s beginning to get dark, we have to hurry!” said the boy and hauled me into a building across the street. We went up the stairs to the highest floor and went into a abandon office room. I was slingshot in the room and the boy barricaded the door fast. He looked one more time through the little window in the door and turned around. “They will never find us in here.” I looked full of surprise at him, I was still trying to progress the body’s and the bloodbath. After I took a deep breath I finally had to courage to talk. “Who are you? Where am I? No a better question is, who am I?” it looked like he was hit in the face with stupidety. He walked fast before me and looked at me. “Tris? It is me, Marcus.” I scanned his face again, but noting came to my mind and I wended my eyes to the side. After some time he spoke up. “I can’t believe this.” He walked back again, and seated himself in front of the door. “After all we went through together. We. Every misery that came on our path, we had to bear. You know me as long as this all began.” I looked puzzled at him. “This all began? What all? And why do you keep calling me Tris? Is that my name?” He placed his hands over his eyes. “Yes. Your name is Tris. Your full name is Tristien Kruyster. We have experienced the beginning of the mutants together. The Helldevils. All where they not that dangerous and blood lusty as they are now.” “What are Helldevils?” I asked him. He looked at me. There was a dangerous flicker in his eyes. “If you keep listening I will explain It all, we got the whole freaking night. Helldevils are mutants who are were unleased in this planet 10 years ago. Back then they were little creatures who did no harm. They looked like red naked cates. They hunted in groups and took a human down with a lot of effort. As you can see, they have evolved a lot in 10 years. They are bigger, faster and more powerful now. You can compare them with big Grey Hounds. They sleep at the day somewhere underground. And when the night falls, the hunt on us begins. In the time they were done evolving they were able to hunt alone, a lot of our friends and families have been killed by these animals. With a few people who are with us, we fled. By traveling by daylight and to hide each other at night we have managed to hold it out this long. Till a few days ago when you suddenly disappeared. Luckily you and your kidnappers left a big trail behind to follow. But I am still not sure who they were.” I played a little with my red hair strains. “Maybe you should have asked them, before you cut their throats.” He looked at me and started to laugh. “ghehe a real hunter doesn’t take please with cutting some throats.” I only noticed now that he had a bow and a container with arrows on his back. Marcus teared a piece of his clothes of and went over to me to bind my head wound. “But enough talk for now, in the meantime It has become dark outside and I am not in the mood to lure those devils here. Try to get some sleep, your memory will come back fast enough.” He pulled of his equipment and went to sit down in a corner, leaning against the wall. Slowly I closed my eyes.
I was not sure how many time has went by. I looked at Marcus who looked like he was deeply asleep. Further there was not a sound to be heard. Was this all real? And those Helldevils, did they really exist or was he making it all up? Were those maybe the big monsters I saw earlier which he had killed? It was all so hard to just ‘suck up’. My head was still throbbing a little, but the bleeding had stopped. What should I do now? Did I even know this person? I did not know what to think anymore and what to believe. The only thing I knew was that I had to get out of here. I silently walked to the door and removed the barricade. I opened the lock and pulled the door on a crack. There was nothing to see out there, I took my chances. I took one last glance at Marcus, he was peacefully sleeping with his blond and purple hair covering his eyes. I walked the hallways in and carefully closed the door again. Slowly I walked all the stairs down again till I saw the big opening of the building. The doors that should have been here were taken down a long time ago. I carefully peeked into the streets. There was nothing to see. Maybe It was all a lie. I started to make my way. But where to go? I would be stupid to walk around aimlessly like a chicken without a head. “If I would go to the centrum and look at the signs there, that would be my best shot.” Why did I talk to myself… First of all, I did not wanted to look like an insane person. Second I DID NOT WANNE ATTRACKS INSANE PERSONS! With every step I took, I took in my surrounding. Every way out, every obstacle. Nothing went by me without being noticed. After a few streets noticed that everything was really deserted. Where did all the humans go? The streets and houses were in bad shape. Like there has been a rebellion here for a couple of days. There were no windows in the buildings. Maybe It was true about the Helldevils. A shiver ran up my spine. Maybe this was not such a good idea after all. I did not know a thing, and still I thought It was such a great idea to explore a city I did not know, deep in the night. While I was struggling with my own thoughts I suddenly heard a weird noise from behind me. Some kind of low rattling sound. Like someone was rattling on some water. I stood still. I carefully turned around and saw a large animal n the distance. No wait, not an animal. It was a monster. Was this a Helldevil? Slowly the monster walked towards me and opened his mouth. Because of the bright light of the moon I could see sharp teeth shinning in it. Instead of the low rattling noise from before, another sound came out of it. A sharp scream. GRYAAAAAAAAAH was being echoed through the street. I clamped my hands down on my ears. Now the mutant was walking a little faster and more threatening towards me. While I stood nailed to the ground I scanned it. His poison yellow eyes were looking straight at me. For to be precise. His red fur was standing straight up. On his head were two horns which he could kebab someone with. He turned his head diagonal like a dog. Then to the other side. While he did this he did not lose me a second out of his eyes. Suddenly his tail shot up. There was a sharp point at the end were some ooze was running out of. His head went diagonal again. Suddenly he stood still, he showed his shiny teeth again and let out an even more sharper scream. This were definitely those deadly Helldevils. They were built like big Grey Hounds. “Hell no!” I sharply turned around an began to run like my life depended on it. Which in this situation REALLY did. I sprinted my way through a street. Where should I go? The adrenaline was shooting through my body while I was running for my life through the alleys. The Helldevil was still pursuing me and was beginning to come closer. I took a turn and maneuvered my way through some trashcans. I stood still before a wall. “SHIT.” It was a death end. The moment I turned around to go back and take another street the Helldevil was at the other end of the alley. I had no were to go. He came dashing forwards and jumped on me. I landed on the hard ground with a bang and tried to throw the mutant off of me. He was to strong! While I tried to avoid his snapping rows of teeth I tried It again. Then his tail came looming above our heads. It waved from the side to side like a cobra while a green colored ooze coated the point. A drop of ooze dripped on the ground beside me. And burned a hole in the ground. My eyes went big. The tail went up a little like it was taking a run-up for the attack. I squeezed my eyes shut and waited for it. But nothing happened. The heavy body sagged down on me. When I opened my eyes again I was looking straight into his kill eyes, with an arrow pierced through his skull. It looked horrifying! I pushed the heavy body off of me. Only now I saw that Marco stood before me. How long had he be standing there? He pulled the arrow out of the mutant and cleaned it. “You are lucky I decided to follow you, Tris.” But If he had been following me the whole time, why did he only now took action? I stood up and I almost wanted to scream why he took his sweet time killing this monster. When Marco suddenly stood way to close into my comfort zone. “Let me make myself clear. If you want to survive with your memory lost, you can better take my advice and do as I say. When it’s dark, we hide. It is dark now, we don’t belong here. We are leaving, before the blood attracts other Helldevils.” Slowly he stepped back, out of my comfort zone. And walked out of the alley. Maybe he was right. Apparently he knew more about the rules then me… My best option was to follow his lead and do what he says, for now. Later I could always make an escape plan. I walked after him through the alleys while the moon was hanging in the dark sky.
