Summary
Tommy jumps out of bed, tripping over his own feet as he practically sprints for the door. He opens it, and- there he is.
Wilbur’s standing just outside the walls, staring at them with an entirely too complicated look on his face. Tommy doesn’t bother to even try parsing it, and instead just drinks in the sight of his brother. Wilbur looks exhausted, honestly, dark circles painted beneath his eyes. He’s here, though, right in front of Tommy.
And even now, after all this time, Wilbur still means safety, so Tommy can’t stop himself from gasping out a sob and falling to his knees.
Wilbur jerks his head from the walls to finally fall on Tommy. He’s just noticed him, apparently. “Tommy?” Wilbur croaks, “What’s-”
Tommy shakes his head, holding out his arms like he’s five again. Wilbur cuts himself off, and just...stares at Tommy. “Wilbur,” he chokes out. Wilbur’s face immediately grows ten times more worried.
“Oh, Tommy,” Wilbur says, placing his hand on the wall and hoisting himself up and over easily.

“Uh— Phil?” The man calls over his shoulder, golden eyes never leaving Tommy’s face, “I need your help over here.”
Tommy bares his teeth, wings fluttering threateningly. He doesn’t want the man to get help, he wants him to go away.
Another man steps into view. This one is short and blonde, with wings a hundred times bigger than Tommy’s, and he’s dressed just as nice as the first man. He hasn’t seen Tommy yet; he’s looking at the big pink one. Mouth open like he’s going to speak.
Tommy hisses again, louder this time. And the man's head snaps towards him— which doesn’t scare Tommy. He doesn’t shrink back, doesn’t try to tuck away his wings with a whine. Because he’s big. He’s big and scary; nothing is scarier than him and he knows it, because he says it.
“Oh,” The man says softly, expression falling at his eyes dart across Tommy’s face. “Oh, mate.”

“This is the bodyguard?” Wilbur says, very slowly, eyeing the kid.
The kid crosses his arms, eyebrows knitting, nose wrinkling. He’s four inches shorter than Wilbur at least, and looks like he’s missed a couple more meals than he can afford to miss. His pants are shredded at the knees, patched with surprisingly neat stitches.
“You can’t be more than, like, thirteen,” Wilbur says.
The kid bristles.

After the latest attempt on Crown Prince Wilbur’s life, Phil insists that Wilbur get a new bodyguard. (The last one, Techno, was promptly adopted as the new prince.) Enter Tommy—standoffish, halfway feral, and, to put it simply, oddly wolflike.
In short, he’s the perfect candidate for Wilbur to immediately adopt as a brother.

Techno tuned everything he said out once it dawned on him. He stared at the cell, barely big enough for someone to fit in it- for Skeppy to fit in it- and his blood ran cold.
“Techno?” Dream nudged him. “Hey, don’t freeze up on me, we gotta get out of here as soon as I’m done getting geared up. No time to waste.”
Dream began to turn but stopped in his tracks once Techno spoke up again. “You were gonna put Skeppy in here?”
“Yeah, it’s a lot more secure than it looks, believe me.”
“It’s tiny.” Techno couldn’t stop himself from spitting the word out venomously. Every nerve curled up in disgust inside of him. Disgust for the guy standing next to him who looked at him like he couldn’t see what was so wrong with what he just said.

Ah, Soulmates. The only thing in life that might’ve been just as important as breathing. The walking, talking concept of someone else being your other “half” as if to say “Hey! You were never a complete person to begin with!”
By god's name, Wilbur hated them. It wasn’t that other people weren’t entitled to their own belief of happiness, but he couldn’t help but instinctively fight back against the message pounded into his head every day since he was five.

"Ranboo slumped, a curtain of shoulder-length hair obscuring his face, slick with shimmering purple liquid, that sweet-smelling smokey tang of metal and jasmine, which- Techno realised with growing horror, which was Ranboo's blood.
Technoblade breathed in as he beheld his student. At his side was a zombie piglin, staying close to Ranboo's side, eyeing Techno with distrust. But Techno was more concerned about Ranboo. His protegee was bleeding from so many wounds, bruised all over his body, and shattered cuts from what looked to be glass in his skin.
His usual purple hue to his body had been replaced by an ashy-white, and there was blood trickling down his lips. Ranboo's breathing was slow and uneven, snow on his clothing, burns touching every surface of his skin. His skin was cold and clammy, shaking and trembling.
Techno's heart clenched, anger already coursing through his veins. In a low, gravelly voice shaking with anger, he lets out a growl. "Who did this to you?""
Or, Ranboo shows up at Techno's house half-conscious and bleeding. Techno is rightfully furious.
