Work Text:
The gate was open finally but, the issue was, neither Quentin nor Jake knew exactly where it was.
They were surrounded by trees, and they had a sneaking suspicion that David and Lara had already escaped.
Making matters worse, they still had to be mindful of the Trapper, who was stomping around, trying to track them down.
"Surely one of them will notice we're missing and come back, right?" Jake asked hopefully. Quentin swallowed thickly.
That's wishful thinking, he thought uncharitably, though he did not voice it.
Once they were sure the Trapper wasn't near them, they began to sneak around together. Jake was walking backwards to keep an eye behind them as he followed the sound of Quentin's footsteps.
Suddenly, Quentin halted and tapped Jake on the shoulder.
Jake turned around and saw that Quentin was pointing at an opening. A weight came off his shoulders.
They found the exit.
Running, Quentin went through the gate, and Jake was following from close behind...
But then he was knocked down.
Helplessly, Quentin turned back and looked through the now-barricaded exit as the Trapper grabbed Jake, kicking and screaming, and picked him up to set on a hook.
"GO!" Jake screamed as the Trapper carried him away. "SAVE YOURSELF!"
Quentin felt a tear trail down his cheek as he watched his friend get carried away.
"Goodbye, Jake"
He couldn't help but feel like their places should be switched. Jake didn't deserve what the Trapper was about to do to him. He didn't deserve to die. They should've both been through the gate together, laughing at the Trapper for failing his mission.
But, instead, he ran alone, trying to ignore the screams from behind as his friend was taken by the Entity.
