fons et origo / noun / Latin: the source and origin of something. Originally as fons et origo mali, ‘the source and origin of evil’.
“Please,” he grimaces, when she moves him, leaning heavily against the tree trunk even as she helps him get his feet under him. “You must go. You must live. Give a lonely old man... something to hope for.”
“You are not alone,” Karai replies on instinct, a well-worn call and response.

Summary
“Normal humans can’t come back from assimilation,” says Casey, tone flat, his eyes fixed on the news footage, as they all sit in Leo’s room and watch soldiers mow down a small swarm of pink-fleshed zombies. “Mutants and yokai can, sometimes,” Casey glances at Raph, who doesn’t look away from the TV, “but it usually takes a lot of mystic energy to fully clear the infection out.”
“Energy that humans don’t tend to have,” Donnie guesses, and Jones hesitates before nodding.
“We should be out there,” Raph mutters, claws digging into his knees, until Splinter clicks his tongue, gently chiding, and pulls one of Raph’s hands into his own.
“The military seems to be handling it fine now,” Donnie says, to the echo of gunfire on the screen. “I say we let them. We’re not in any shape to be fighting, anyway.”
Mikey’s soft snoring, and the steady beep of Leo’s heart monitor, both punctuate that statement for him.(Or: The Kraang were defeated. The world was saved. The Hamatos are safe to rest, and recover, and rebuild. ...So why does it still feel like the other shoe's about to drop at any moment?)
