Five weeks ago, Mulder was brutally dumped by Diana. He’s hurt, humiliated, and determined to stay as far away from anything remotely resembling the X-Files.
But, he's handed a case. It's a diplomatic request from Sweden asking FBI to review a cold case profile. It turns out to be the 1986 assassination of the Swedish Prime Minister and Mulder, being the BSU's golden boy, is supposed to just look at the profile, comment on it, and move on.
He doesn’t move on. And while he's busy not moving on, his past hunts him down.

It was odd that she hadn’t noticed him yet, he was sure he had let out a noise as he collapsed forward. Speaking of it, he felt much smaller than he had before. As he looked down, he let out a sob as he saw the weak limbs of those little scampering creatures that usually wore that odd shiny coating. The creatures usually shout at him angrily, or fearfully as he soared above. He never attacked unless provoked, what could they possibly be angry at him for? What happened to him? Had they done this to him as punishment?

深夜睡不着的时候经常在想，有没有那么一种平行宇宙，迷龙的枪没有正中官员侄子的心脏，也许只是半生不死那样的结局会不会不一样。龙文章也许他还会说出西进吧不要北上，也许地点不同，也许他仰身坠入了悬崖，也许悬崖上有一颗歪脖子树。孟烦了看到的死啦死啦也许并非鬼魂，于是他在最后冲进了阿译的营房。也许烦啦能够找到死啦，即便过去已被他遗忘。
也许的也许，都是我的遗憾。
我时常幻想，烦啦和死啦从哪一瞬间关系开始变得不一样，他们会拥抱吧，那更进一步又在何时，是在被月光照亮的战壕中吗？他们又是如何舔舐彼此因煎熬而破碎的心，在抵额哭泣中说出终归虚妄。
