The moon was rising. The Winter Solstice had begun.

Summary
Aang isn’t born the avatar; his best friend is. Then she dies in a storm, sparing him. This would be all right, except two deaths later, the avatar spirit is reincarnated into someone much, much worse: Princess Azula.
To say Prince Zuko's day gets worse when he finds this out is an understatement. The Gaang concurs.

Summary
“The Amazing Wonder Twins” were not in fact twins, that was just their circus act. But from a distance and with masks on, it was rather hard to tell unless you looked really closely.
For starters, they were brother and sister, so at least related but still not twins, not even fraternal. Second, the brother, Lu, was older than his sister, La, by four years. And finally, Lu wasn’t a firebender.

Summary
A hundred years ago the fire nation attacked the air nomads in a preemptive strike to ensure the then Avatar would not reach full maturity. All four of the Air Temples were lost, almost all the nomads were wiped out on the very dawn of the war.
But some still survived, small pockets and bands who would go on to form the current air nation, fractured though it may be. The few monks who survived the initial temple attack and managed to escape formed the air shrines within the major cities of the Earth Kingdom, while the wandering nomads who had not been at the temples created the Air Enclaves, and there are always rumors of still more nomadic clans of Air Nomads who yet still refuse to set down roots.
It is in the Eastern Enclave of the Si Wong Desert that a young air bender named Aang grows up.
But storm clouds are gathering.

Zuko thought things couldn't get any better or worse. But the universe had a way of never holding back on him. Before Zuko could blink, he was branded a traitor and running for his life.

Summary
Zuko, Prince of the Fire Nation has just been banished. He’s spoken out of turn, disobeyed Uncle, even disrespected Father . He’s failed the nation that he’s supposed to rule one day and deserves his punishment, not the possibility to regain his honor given to him by Father.
Capture the Avatar? Okay. He resides in Ba Sing Se, the most heavily fortified city in the Earth Kingdom, but okay.
Return him to the Fire Nation alive? Sure. He’s probably being trained by bending masters from around the world but sure.
Get his honor back and learn to rule his nation with pride and justice? Fine. Azula hates him, Mother’s gone , and he looks absolutely hideous with his scar, but it’s fine.
At least he knows where the Avatar is. After all, the Avatar is sacred. He must be protected in Ba Sing Se.
Right?
Or, the Fire Nation was more than thorough in their search for the Avatar, but Zuko learns early on that his honor had never been lost.
