Summary
Baz Pitch is his mother's son. Nearly from birth, he was taught the Old Ways of harnessing magic. He was taught to use the cycles of the moon, the days of the solstices, and the minerals from the Earth to cast spells. He was taught, from a young age, that Magic, while ever changing, is also grounded in tradition.
When his mother is killed in an attack on Watford, the blame is placed on the Ancient magic she called upon for protection and power. Since then, the Old Ways were seen as Dark, Evil, and far too dangerous and obscure for modernity. With the death of Natasha Pitch, came the death of Ancient Magic.
But Baz Pitch is his mother's son, and while he has to hide his Dark knowledge to the other magicians, he knows it won't be forever. He was taught well, and when the moment comes, he will take back his mother's legacy.
And no one (especially not the Mage's puppet, Simon Snow) will stand in his way.

However, as I walk up to my room, which I have the unfortune of sharing it with the ultimate git himself, Baz, I feel and hear something shuffling at my feet. I look down and I find a piece of paper.
I bend down and pick it up. The first thing I noticed was how it looked like a page torn out of a notebook of sorts. Then the next thing I noticed was the illegible writing. At first, I thought that it was illegible because it was in cursive but then as I attempted to read on I realise that it’s not even in English.
It’s in Greek.

“Look!” He’s gesturing wildly at the bush, waving his arms so vehemently I’m scared he’s going to propel himself over and into it.
“Yeah, Baz,” I say, catching one of his arms just in case. Then, deciding he probably won’t kill me for it now, or even tomorrow, I let my hand slip lower. I thread my fingers through his. “That’s a very nice bush.”
Baz is drunk. He finds a bush. Gay flowers and lullabies and taking care of the person you love ensue.

Summary
Even with the covers over my head, I can still feel Snow's eyes on me. After a moment, when I hope he has closed his eyes again, I poke my wand out of the covers, pointed at him.
“Sleep, my child, and peace attend thee all through the night.” I say, with magick. It’s a sickeningly sweet spell, quoted from a lullaby mothers sing to children, (so Snow hopefully wouldn’t even recognise it on the off chance he did hear it), and it can be used only on someone you have genuine affection for.
I know I didn’t get away with casting it against his knowledge because I hear him say “huh?” before, I assume, he falls right asleep.
I pull the covers off from over my head and sneak a peek. I’m right, out like a light. “Finally.” I mumble.

When Simon stays awake longer than is convenient, Baz decides to spell him to sleep. But when Simon has a nightmare later that night, Baz offers his comfort.

The Hanahaki disease is an illness born from one-sided love in which the victim coughs up flowers or flower petals as a reaction to his or her infatuation. The only cure is to have that love reciprocated or to somehow wipe away all one’s feelings for their beloved person. The infection can also be removed through surgery, but along with the petals, any and all memories associated with that person disappear.
The Hanahaki disease is NOT harmless. The victim can die from it; the growing flowers will eventually clog up his or her respiratory system and windpipe leading to eventual death due to lack of air. Love does kill indeed—one-sided love.
I already knew that I’m in love with Simon Snow. I already knew that one day it would kill me. I just didn’t think it would be like this.
