Hiraeth is a earnest longing for a home that no longer exists or never was. A home that you can no longer return to. The nostalgia, the yearning, the grief for the lost home, time, or person.
Alternative summary: jay dies, and he's promised with a new start, if he does some dirty work for the ark in multiple universes. He's met with people who reminds him of home, and it burns.
