Summary
After a bathroom break, Gable takes a moment to visit their convalescing coworker. The disappointment of the visit quickly fades as they take a moment to pass the time with a cardgame that bears some resemblance to the wizards' duel. Gable is nagged throughout by a sense that they are closer than they should be to Nodoze as a frail (not frail) and breakable (only compared to immortals) mortal (this one is true) individual, but further than they'd like. What responsibility do they have as shepherd of humanity, and what desires do they have as wolf?

Thrusting the holodisc into Zero’s hand, Blue says abruptly: “I — made you something. Unfortunately it’s bad and stupid and a terrible idea in the first place, but Aava threatened me with grievous bodily harm if I didn’t give it to you after all this, so here it is. You can listen to it, if you want to. Or not. Or you could just throw it away. That would probably be better. But it’s up to you, it’s… it’s yours. Ok, bye, I urgently need to go check on, er, something stupendously important on the other side of the — ”
“Oh no, you don’t,” Zero says, grabbing Blue’s wrist with the hand that isn’t cradling the holodisc to his chest to keep him from slinking away.
Blue gets back to his artistic roots. Aava deserves, yet will not get, a space pony. Zero has a pretty good day, all told. The specter of the galaxy’s first 16 hour long musical looms.

When Zero surfaces again, Blue is still murmuring things that are insane and sweet and sweetly insane as he rains soft kisses over Zero’s face — things about ruling the galaxy together one day, about how Zero is so good, perfect, the strongest thing he knows, I could build an empire on the strength of your arm, and Zero turns his face into the curve of Blue’s neck and shivers.
Zero has a bad day. Blue helps. It's surprisingly effective!

There’s a moment where Zero’s lust-hazy brain processes that, and once it does he lapses helplessly into laughter. He cups Blue’s pointy, freckled little face between his hands, overcome once more by the inexplicable need to just hold — the urge to gather him in and cradle him close enough to his own body that nothing in the world could ever hurt him. It seems something right between a miracle and a catastrophe, having something in the galaxy that is this dear to him. It’s not the first time by far he’s had to contemplate the sheer enormity of the things he would do for Blue’s complete lack of an ass, but he’s never felt the sureness of it quite so pressingly.
Blue and Zero over the years, through the night after the Gala and beyond.

“Oh,” Blue says, eyes glittering like diamonds and moonlight refracted through ice in the half-dark — sensing that Zero is genuinely stung seems to have woken something in him, set him alight with some stark and baleful spark of life where he was merely wanly acrimonious before, “oh, I have so many things I could say to you, that’s nothing. Nothing at all. I’ve filled this whole year up in my head with nothing but things to say to you. Would you like to hear some of it?”
Basically this is the story where the Bad Kids defect and then realize to their horror they forgot Blue at home in the parking lot, and Zero feels really extremely horribly bad about it probably forever but tries to do something about it
