Summary
When Robin, dealing with bandit skirmishes in northern Ylisse, calls for reinforcement, Chrom rushes to his side only to find his beloved gravely wounded and near death from a brush with an unexpected enemy. With winter quickly approaching, they're forced to face this new opponent even as the stormclouds gather to block their passage home.
Chapter Three: Thirst (Day Seventeen)
“Clear the line!” Robin shouted as power built in his hand. He held it for a second longer, waiting to see the nearby soldiers take a step back from the barricades, then rose to his feet and let the magic course through him. “Thoron!”
Electricity sung through his body as a bolt of lightning split the air. A slight spark ran across the barricade but did no damage, and the tome in his hand seemed to flash with light for a moment as the spell circle burnt through the page. The smell of ozone thickened around him and, even with the insulation in his boots, Robin could feel the hair on his arms and the back of his neck standing up from the intensity of the spell.

Charles de Gaulle finds himself waking up in the land of Ylisse. Dazed and confused, he manages to find temporary refuge in Southtown before he meets Chrom and his Shepherds, joining them out of personal agreement with their goals and for his survival.
If you think you have seen this fic before, that is because I crashed out, having bitten more than I thought I would have needed to chew considering that I was planning making de Gaulle follow the in game chapters (with some creative liberties such as combining he Awakening chapters that follow a clear arc into one chapter for the fic, unprepared there was going be 20+ main chapters), and deleted it. I generally prefer not to upload fics that remain unfinished as I dislike the feeling of reading a fic only to see that there is no conclusion to a journey.

How many years has it been since Hikari had arrived to Ylisse? Five. And in that short amount of time she found other trainers just like her. All settled down in a village that bordered the lands of Plegia and Ylisse. One Bandit skirmish when she was eighteen she found herself dragged into a conflict when all she wants to do is teach the villagers how to make her ramen... they make her ramen buns so that is alright. Now she has to deal with a Plegian dark mage who not only finds her reactions funny but the fact that her magic itself is unlike those of Ylissean mages. A homage to Hikari's ancestor within Johto, the powerful spellcaster of the Hoshiyume family. Now all Hikari has to do is figure out if the Dark Mage is just bored or if she was truly captured for a purpose. Because if it is the former, maybe she can take a break from her smiling mask.

While the rag-tag defenders are proud of their bonds, their numbers are growing thin, and an ancient evil is stirring on the borders of Ylisse. Chrom faces problems of his own, as he struggles to accept the strange magic that comes with his bond and not live up to the legacy of his father. Meanwhile Robin must face the phantoms from her own past, learn to understand her own bond and magic, and her growing relationship with Chrom. But all those things are going to be vital, if they’re going to survive.

Few know how those fateful words pertain to the meeting of Robin and Chrom in the middle of an unremarkable field. The white-haired bumpkin doesn't know who he is or how he got there, but nightmarish visions tell him that Chrom's path undoubtedly leads to deadly calamity. As though that isn't bad enough, he must also contend with the visitations of hellish demons and a mysterious swordsman who seems to possess impossible knowledge of days yet to pass. What is behind these conundrums? Whatever the truth, Robin must choose his allegiance and invite some dire consequences if he wants to protect Ylisse from troublesome neighbours and furtive evildoers.
A fair few years too late, this is my novelisation of my favourite Fire Emblem game, telling the hapless beginning of our favourite tactician.
