January 2017. Chris and Piers are about to set off for their new jobs as Directors of the BSAA NAB in Washington D.C. But there are a few preliminaries to go through before. Gifts to be received, goodbyes to be said, tears to be cried....and some laughs of course.
Here in Spain, where I now live, it is the tradition to exchange gifts in the New Year; on Epiphany, rather than Christmas Day. The Three King's Day, January 6th, El Dia Del Reyes. Chris and Piers' friends seem to be leaving things rather late; it's almost the end of January. But it's not really about the New Year, or the presents, or their new jobs. It's about the gift of friendship, about family, about love......

Spring may grow into summer, but it has its roots in winter, and so that’s where we begin, continuing directly on from the final moments of Winter Bane. The fourth and final part of my ‘Seasons’ tetralogy, which started with 'Summer Days, Summer Nights’ then ‘Autumn Leaves’ and ‘Winter Bane.’
Why Pierian Spring? The sacred spring was said to be near ancient Leivithra in Pieria, a region of ancient Macedonia, also the location of Mount Olympus, and believed to be the home and the seat of worship of Orpheus. The Muses "were said to have frolicked about the Pierian springs soon after their birth". The spring is believed to be a fountain of knowledge that inspires whoever drinks from it.
I liked the sound of the name, it’s pronounced like Piers, and as we know, Piers is always knowledgeable and full of good advice. :))
