When Luther locks Vanya away, her brothers immediately move to free her. In the aftermath, Klaus is suffering, Vanya is coming to terms with herself, Five is the only one with his eye on the ball, Ben is tired, and Luther is learning how to be a person. So, you know. Same old, same old.
AKA The AU where the Hargreeves siblings avert the Season 1 Apocalypse by being just a little nicer to each other, there’s a happy ending, no one has to suffer through the hell that is Seasons 3 and 4, and also Klaus still wears eyeliner.

Summary
A Shau Valley, Vietnam. Private David Katz lay awake, rekindling the memories of the leave he'd spent with one, Klaus Hargreeves. His attention is successfully diverted when he hears crying coming from the neighbouring cot. Dispelling Klaus's nightmare he pulls the younger man into bed for some much needed comfort. They awake the following morning in each others arms. Dave is awoken by the bugle call, and Klaus by his deceased brother, Ben's excessive shouting. Dave agrees to run away with Klaus, they escape the horrors of the war by travelling back to 2019, where they are picked up by Diego and Patch and taken back to the academy to get the family's approval.

Ch.2 is what I had written already, and a summary of how the story would have ended.****
“Come to the future with me.”Dave freezes, rearing back to look Klaus in the eyes, searching for something and- whatever it is, he seems to find it.
“You’re serious.”
“I am.”
The silence is a yawning, gaping thing that Klaus balances on the edge of, trying to hold steady, waiting.
And finally, after minutes or seconds or years, between one heartbeat and the next, Dave smiles, and it’s like the sun bracketing the stars, blinding and beautiful and all-consuming.
“Yes,” Dave breathes emphatically. “Fuckin’ hell, darlin’, but I ain’t ever wanted t’do anythin’ more.”

Fifty years in the future, or nine, or maybe a whole goddamn lifetime, Five Hargreeves holds a directive from the Handler in trembling fingers, pressing a hand to his bloodied, aching side as he reads aloud:
