Summary
He had found Alicent with a swollen face, made less red by the face paintings she wore, that adorned her eyes nicely and tinted her lips a pretty shade of rose. She had been crying a lot as of late. Almost every time Criston Cole caught a glance of the daughter of the Hand, she had been weeping or looked to begin weeping soon. Alicent was a solemn girl who spent many a day at the Sept, and the other half locked in her chambers, and she would cry for seemingly no reason at all when she thought no one was there to witness. Witnessing was his job, however, and he could not help but look. Her vows are heavier than mine, he thinks. She looked beautiful even in sadness, however, Criston decided, as if her eyes had been made for tears.
At the cusp of King Viserys's new wedding, Alicent, Criston, and Rhaenyra mourn their losses, but duty calls, and all must answer.
