Summary
She didn’t dream often, a little-known side effect of not sleeping often, but the haze she lay in felt unreal. Like a dream she’d somehow fallen into. She never liked it when her head got like this - she knew it made her seem weak - but it always seemed to happen when she was with him.

Summary
“I bet, if I told the host that I was going to propose, he’d let me cheat on this game so I could hide the ring in the prize,” Corazón said without her needing to say a word, twisting the ring off of his finger. He took her hand, checking her finger size, and grimaced. “I could loosen this ring in a jiffy if I got my hands on some pliers, or maybe a pointed rock.”
Merilwen wasn’t aware that there was a game going on, too caught up in the fancy party around them and the fact that they had gotten separated from their guild. As much as they all had a habit of wandering off, they usually wandered off together, and when they split up further, she tailed after Prudence or Dob. She wasn’t entirely sure how she had ended up at the edge of the ballroom with Corazón, sipping at some highly alcoholic mixed drink poured into dainty flutes. She wasn’t sure how this would help track down the legendary dagger-artifact-majiggy they were on a fetch quest for.
Merilwen was sure that she liked getting prizes, so she clasped her hands around the ring. “String it on a chain as a necklace and say it’s a delicate family heirloom.”

Summary
Before, Corazón never thought he would have children.
It was too tied up in expectation - at first his womanhood, and then even after he came out, legacy, lineage, an ever-growing line of emotionally shut off fathers raising emotionally shut off sons. He had to have a child because he was a Milquetoast. He refused to even consider the thought for the exact same reasons.
From the next room, a shrill cry started up, and Dob buried their head beneath the pillow with a groan. Corazón looked over at the door, considered for a moment, then returned his gaze to the book he was reading.
It was funny, how things changed.

Summary
“Oh. Prudence, you didn’t.”
“Don’t you start with me.” She crossed her arms and tucked herself under his chin. “If I wanted a lecture, I would have gone to Merilwen.”
“I think I’m allowed to start with you for sleeping with my best friend.”
Prudence let out a low hiss. “We didn’t get that far before Corazón walked in.”
Egbert jolted upright, any thought he had for comforting cuddles flying from his mind. “Corazón walked in?!”

Summary
soulmate au: everyone is born with a superpower. when soulmates are together, their powers are nullified by each other.
In theory, Merilwen and Dob had very similar powers.
It was so cute, it was almost gimmicky. Whenever Dob went, he made people feel better. Wherever Merilwen went, she made plants feel better. They were matched well in that way, causing life to thrive all around them. Maybe it was a bit ironic that it was when they were together that their powers faded away, but that was standard stuff for soulmates. They could laugh along with the jokes that Dob made Merilwen’s green thumb wither away. They could ignore the oddly specific questions about what they did when Merilwen got hurt at home.
They used bandaids, for the record. Dob was still a doctor even when he wasn’t cheating with his superpower. He had a degree.

soulmate au: when you close your own eyes, you can see what your soulmate sees.
Dob shared everything with his sister, but he could never find the words for his daydreams. It seemed silly whenever he tried to explain it aloud. I just want to watch them read. He already did that every night. He really should want them to get more interesting hobbies. Or to at least start reading fairy tales instead of ancient spell books full of runes. Something he could understand.

soulmate au: your soulmate's hands have a magnetic draw to your own.
Everything was wrong in the stupidest possible way, and it wasn’t worth being upset over, but La Vache Mauve above, Dob was going to lose it. He was a spring ready to be sprung. He was a loose cannon wheeling around for a victim. He was vibrating on the spot like he was about to explode. He was-
A large, warm hand found his own, and a magnetic draw pulled them close together. As their fingers click!ed into place, Dob took a steadying breath, and Egbert bumped his arm into Dob’s shoulder.
“Hey. You okay?”
“Well, I am now,” Dob mumbled in response.

Summary
“They’re fraternal, not identical. Egon’s a boy.”
Dob fought down the urge to take a second glance at the three kids, who would look right at home in a hall of mirrors reflecting off of one another. “Oh, right, of course! Sorry, my bad.”
“I mean, Egle and Eglantine are identical obviously, but Egon isn’t,” Egbert corrected himself, confusing Dob even further.
“Obviously,” he agreed with zero comprehension. “Do you wanna talk about it more over dinner sometime?”
He could hear three gasps of shock from the car. Dob was a little stunned that he wasn’t gasping at himself, considering he hadn’t meant to say a single one of those words. He was remembering all of a sudden that he still had four students sitting in his classroom that he desperately needed to get back to.
Egbert jolted, startled. “What?”
“Huh?”

Falling head-over-heels at first sight for your students' father is always a good plan. Dob is pretty sure that's true. Nothing could go wrong here.
