I'm still in GatHeart's DrabbletOberfest.
This is AC as an A+ Dad as he attempts to venture into developing Leo's understanding of the movement of people at that time, i.e. The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. That I have written this as if developing a child's understanding has meant that some of the more difficult aspects of this are a little blurred, I fully acknowledge that.If anyone can instruct me on how to ensure italics are carried over when I copy and paste text, I'd be glad to know.

Here is my last contribution to the Gatheart Challenge, on the wire.
I wrote it as a mix of 'What if' and 'A Wordless Missing Scene' but with dialogues. And I quickly realized that I was not very good at conversations. Just love, no steamy scenes. I hope that this does not give a too cheesy, nunuche result either. This story was not easy for me, I give you the version that dissatisfies me the least. -

This is a Beach Concert/Missing Scene story (though not a wordless missing scene) about what might have transpired between the end of the aria and the end of the episode and directly after the episode ended.
I believe Alexander entered Season 3 as a changed man. He was more confident, he had gone a long way towards mending his relationships with the girls, and when he heard Charlotte was back, he was eager to make amends. The brick wall of her engagement was the only thing stopping him, as it would mean, once again, compromising both her honor and his own to speak - this after she had already accused him of showing her too much disrespect for her to ever "feel tenderness" for him. Here, I imagine he found a way to use the sea, the music, and metaphor to make his feelings known.

At almost 5,000 words, I suggest you snuggle up with your favorite libation.
I seem to be on a 'Charlotte and Alexander to the Rescue' kick. This fic follows canon so far as canon goes. It takes place at the end of S3E4 and the beginning of S3E5, when it is discovered that Augusta and Edward have eloped.
I have kept what dialogue appears between the pertinent characters and filled out the scenes that are 'missing' from our view.
It also seemed to provide an opportunity for a missing and very necessary conversation between our favorite lovers.
Obviously, the characters and show dialogue are not my own.

When Leo overhears Charlotte and Alexander after the ball and runs off the next day to learn the truth from Lennox, our favorite lovers have perhaps their longest interlude alone before their engagement (excepting the notorious carriage ride). And we didn't get to see any of it. So I wrote it.

The song is from 2017 but it’s in my all time favorites playlist… I somehow came to imagine that they would dance to this song at their first ball.

Update: I have added a new Chapter 1 (beginning of the story), which takes place at Leo's 10th birthday. Notes at the end of the chapter.
Set in a Heybourne, post-series universe, this story is unapologetically focused on Alexander and Leo. Other canon and some original characters appear, but Xander and Leo's relationship is at the center. I tagged @GatHeart's #DrabbletOberFest, because, without that inspiration, this work wouldn't exist (thank you, @GatHeart!). However, I must confess up front that this seven-chapter collection of father-daughter moments is in no way a drabble! I meant to, really I did, but it mushroomed.
I have enjoyed all of your #Heybourne works, but haven't felt the inspiration to join in before, so thank you, @GatHeart, for the challenge and the prompt, AC as A+ Dad. That was what kicked this whole thing off. I have interacted as a Guest (CR) to comment on some of your wonderful works, but this is my first foray into writing a fanfic of my own.
Many thanks to @BilberryLane for her perceptive thoughts, support, and kindness.
This story is complete. I am doing little edits on each chapter and will post every couple of days to put the whole thing up in the next week or so.

Instead of an explanation or apology for his behavior at the garden party- our hero has so few words to offer, is too locked up inside himself at this point in the series -Charlotte gets to ride Colbourne’s horse and enjoys it very much. AC shows her he regrets his behavior and wishes to please and respect her through his deeds.
