Wanting something that’s not quite his is practically in the job description for “younger son.” He should be used to it. But nothing Bartrand has ever owned or stood to inherit has filled him with the kind of deep, unpleasant envy that’s been growing since… shit, he doesn’t want to think how long. Those things tend to lurk and fester, all the unpleasant verbs.
