His Dark Materials AU. John and his dæmon, Amarisa, have never quite fit in, largely because she settled as a wolfdog. Sherlock and Raniel are similarly isolated, mostly because the woman they call Mummy is a witch. These two men and their dæmons end up sharing a flat together and the rest, as they say, is history. And with a witch-clan out for John's blood and a man known as Moriarty emerging from the shadows, they're certainly not going to be bored.

Summary
For someone he'd hero-worshipped for so long, Steve Rogers in the flesh is a pretty big disappointment. For one thing, he keeps looking at Tony as though he reminds him of someone else, and even if he never says anything, Tony's pretty sure it's his father. A lifetime of not measuring up to Howard's expectations is more than enough, thank you very much, and he's certainly not going to make an effort to live up to any of Steve's. Steve's pretty clearly failed to live up to his expectations, in any case, and that's not hypocritical at all.

Summary
When Steve moves into Avengers mansion he is caught up in strange coincidences. He walks behind an unseen ghost: a ghost who leaves empty spaces all around the manor. It doesn't make sense, and it sounds crazy until he meets Anthony, a computer simulation programmed by Anthony Stark, who died two years ago. Then it just seems even crazier.

Steve's not sure if he'll ever understand Tony Stark, but it's good, living here. If he still wakes up sometimes convinced this was all a dream, well, it's better than it was before, and that's something, isn't it?
The Avengers live in a world that both glorifies and fears them, but they know each other now behind the scenes.

'Avengers Insomnia Club,' the poster says. 'Most of the night, most nights, except if we're avenging stuff.' There's a row of pictures, one shot of each of the Avengers looking exhausted. They're very unflattering. Steve can't help laughing.
Under the pictures, there's smaller text. 'Sparring, late-night TV and B-movies, inappropriate drinking games, amateur therapy, etc. Extended Avengers family can come too. Ask JARVIS where the party's at.'

“I grew up in that pit, and I’m one of the only ones who ever walked back out. What that does that tell you?” Bones asked, voice thick with distress.
Jim answered without thinking. “That the worst place in the universe can still turn out the best thing that’s ever happened to me.”
Bones’ head snapped up at he stared at Jim in open astonishment, a long moment of shocked silence stretching between them.
“I don’t believe you just said that,” Bones finally said.
“I don’t believe I just said that,” Jim told him with a grimace. “Fuck, that was disgusting.”

Jim is like quicksilver. He’s constantly moving, always on the go, always two steps ahead of everybody and always out of reach. He’s not something to have. He’s not somebody you could ever own or call yours. Jim is just made to let go, and letting go is the one thing McCoy sucks at the most. But maybe, McCoy realizes, Jim doesn’t want to let him go either.

Bookmarker's Notes
At one, a small mob (relatively speaking) of citizens brought a woman to the Watch. They said she was a witch and that they should burn her.
‘Why?’ Carrot did not look impressed.
‘On account o’ her bein’ a witch!’ One of the mob leaders said.
‘But why should we burn her?’
‘Make the plague stop. Stands to reason.’
‘Burning this lone woman will make the plague, that is affecting the entire continent, stop?’
‘Stands to reason.’
At a quarter past one a small mob was politely, but firmly, told to Sod Off.
