After Kaveh comes back from the wedding of his mother in Fontaine, he returns to the Puspa Café for his shift, only to encounter a new face. That face, as he will later learn, is not only his new coworker, but the worst gift and the best curse Fate could've thrown at him
Though Alhaitham felt a little under pressure at being watched like that, he promptly put the pitcher under the steam wand and circled it around a little bit so the milk could warm up evenly. When it was good enough, he pulled the pitcher down, just so that the tip of the wand would remain in the milk. Adjusting the pitcher according to the sound the wand made submerged in the milk, Alhaitham steamed it. Upon the right temperature, he unceremoniously poured the milk into the cup. Ignoring Kaveh's shriek, he brought it to the customer's table.
"You!!! How could you!! That was perfectly glossy steamed milk, how could you just pour it like that?!" He roared once Alhaitham returned, unleashing his fury upon the other.
"I told you I can't do latte art" Alhaitham simply shrugged at it, deeming it not his problem, and turned back to the work ahead of him.

“Oh…well, at this point, it’s just semantics,” Al-Haitham says, his lips twitching upwards in the slightest movement, which Kaveh has learned to be Al-Haitham’s version of a shit-eating grin. He is the unfunniest man Kaveh has ever met, and Kaveh has met Cyno.
Kaveh chucks a book at him. “That’s not even your main field of research!”Or, five times Al-Haitham talks linguistics, and one time Kaveh does.

“How do you define being alive?” Faruzan asked. “Karkata toes the line between a weak and a strong artificial intelligence, which is probably why its existence is so controversial in the Akademiya.” Hat Guy shifted uncomfortably. “Regardless, do you think a worm is alive? Would you care for its pronouns like you do Karkata’s? Is it intelligence, and is an artificial intelligence alive?” Why does it all even matter?”
“You’re asking too many questions.”
“On the contrary, I think all of these are valid, even if we do not know the answer.”
“Then a question to you," he said. "Do you think we should treat artificially intelligent creatures as living creatures?”
Faruzan finds she enjoys her mental sparring battles (read: trash talking sessions) with a certain Hat Brat a little too much.

Can Hal keep cool, keep their stomach, and keep their wits about them as they push forward in the name of linguistics?
