Summary
Wife, mother, aspiring artist, and closeted lesbian - for Xie Lian, the labels keep tacking on. Yet at thirty-two, she still has no idea who she really is and no opportunity to explore her identity but through her paintings, which her husband keeps locked away out of shame. With a loveless fourteen year marriage on the rocks and her husband's health in jeopardy, she is forced to spend the summer at her family's lakeside villa resort and twenty-four hours a day with the people she has spent the last fourteen years trying to avoid. What is shaping up to be a disastrous summer quickly turns around when she meets the resort maintenance woman, Hua Cheng, who helps her explore a side of herself she never knew, and realize that there's still a life out there worth pursuing.
But her newfound happiness with Hua Cheng comes a plethora of problems from the outside world- scandals, break-ins, murder plots, and reminders of a past she longs to forget. As much as Xie Lian would like to preserve their happy little oasis together, their worlds will inevitably merge, forcing Xie Lian to face the skeletons in her closet in order to embrace her new identity.
