Katherine was a young girl living a small village within a fairly large spruce forest. She was born with sensitive cat ears for some odd reason, no one minded them but loud noises hurt her ears. Katherine was the daughter of a village shepherd, until Katherine started taking over the chore and her dad was left to simply shear the sheep and tailor clothing for the other villagers. Katherine‘s mom was also the village cleric, making potions for various uses, but mainly healing, occasionally weakness potions in case someone needed to cure a zombified villager but always for healing purposes. There was also a strawberry blond cat named Muffin that Katherine took in when it was stranded in the rain when Muffin was a kitten.

Danny looked pointedly at the frame as he approached. Tucked into the steps, away from the heat, and he couldn’t help the twinge of envy that ran through him as he pulled off his cap and wiped at his face. His hair stuck to his forehead with sweat. His throat scratched as he swallowed, saliva thick as it moved down his throat.
The woman in the photo smiled up at him. Blonde and beautiful. Picture perfect. Seven open flames licked at the air, swallowing up the moisture and growing higher still, defying the breeze that pushed at Danny’s back. Forcing him forward as he dragged his luggage behind him. Up one step, then another, until he was tearing his gaze away from the face of a woman he used to feel nothing but jealousy for.
Maybe he still did. Maybe he wished it were him in that frame, staring out at nothing but dead fields and scrawny oak trees offering nothing but rotten fruit. Nothing to keep him company out here but a hundred snuffed candles and broken picket fences stained with mud and patched with the wrong color of paint.
