His back was to his bedroom entrance - meaning his arm and the seemingly never-ending flow of blood drizzling onto his desk was hidden from view by his shell.
So if Mikey hadn't been present for the actual moment Leo used his very own sword to cut himself there was the real possibility his little brother who was looking right at him had no idea he was actively bleeding all over his desk right this very moment.

The hinges had groaned, and the door caught for a moment before it began to move more easily.
But that’s where Leo’s luck had given out. The edge of the door had begun to swing forward faster than Leo had been prepared for. It had knocked into his bad leg, which had whited out his vision at the same time he’d felt himself falling forward. Automatically, he’d thrown his hand out to catch himself on the wall, but only found open space, he’d dropped his crutches automatically trying to find something, anything to grab onto to stop himself from falling, and had found the edge of the doorframe. He’d had just a moment to realize he was on the wrong side of the closet door when something heavy had knocked into his shell.
With his balance already precarious, and his fingers wet with sweat from all the walking he’d been doing, his tedious grip was wrenched free from the doorframe as he was shoved deeper into the closet before the door had shut, enclosing him in darkness.

Life wasn't all that bad for the kappa teen son of the influentially wealthy Big Mama.
When he was an infant the red-eared slider kappa (who was really a mutant turtle - but he didn't know that) had been brought to the wildly successful spider yokai who owned and ran both the Hidden City's Battle Nexus and the lavish above ground Grand Nexus hotel by one Baron Draxum.
At first Big Mama had curled her lip up in disgust at the distasteful thought of caring for a helpless infant that couldn't do so much as feed himself. But instead of disposing of him that soft spot she held for Lou carried over to this little baby so that she held on to him and over time her mind was changed and her heart softened.
What was wrong with that? Even a villain can have room in their heart for love. Although their definition of how that love is displayed can be vastly different from what love really is.
