Summary
Inspired by the Grey's Anatomy episode 'If/Then.'
Set at the end of Season 3 around the time of 'One More for the Road.'
We all know that Mark trashed the ER lounge in an attempt to deal with being nearly killed in the bathroom by a random attacker. He then bought a gun in an attempt to regain a sense of normalcy in his life.
But what if fate had another way of helping him heal? What if fate put a person in his path that reminded him that recovery from all circumstances is possible?
And what if the stories of others turned out differently as well?

Summary
John Carter is twenty-three hours into a twenty-four hour shift, and sixty minutes has never been longer. The internal clock in his body is begging him to press fast forward, speed through the remaining time, even possibly the time it would take him to shuffle across towards the medical school, so he can collapse onto the twin-size mattress he calls a bed and call it a day.
Unfortunately, John’s body does not have the same capabilities as a VCR.
---
Aka: Johns' gallbladder hates him.
--
Set loosely during Season 4, when John's refusing his families money and is cut off. Some details may be more aligned with Season 5, such as living at the Medical School, but this is just a sandbox I'm playing in.

Sicktember Day 21- Alt prompt: "I love you" and BTHB prompt "Who did this to you?"
Something isn't right, that voice tells him again, just like it had done all those years ago when other hands strayed and another voice whispered in his ear.
And he remembers- amidst Gamma’s curtness and his father’s shortness and his mother’s drunken confessions, somebody else spoke those words to him too. She did, hooking her index finger under his chin, looking down at him with those irresistible eyes, cat-like and sharp.
“Oh, I do love you, Johnny. You're so special. You know that, don't you?”

Sicktember Day 13- Chronic Illness
His body simply doesn't play by the rules. Which is why it's been pleasantly surprising, over the past few years, that he's been able to keep his malfunctions covert enough to avoid suspicion. Each faint at work has been in the lounge or bathroom, either hidden in plain sight feigning a nap, or curled in a cramped stall with his neck at an angle. When his GI issues play up, he blames bad takeout or, more profitably it seems, his anxiety. During migraine attacks and feverish spells, he tells the others that he's simply feeling a little ‘under the weather’.
And the good thing about County is that everybody's too busy to ask questions.
OR
Unbeknownst to the rest of the ER, Carter has POTS. During his first ever long shift as a surgical intern, it rears its ugly head to make his life a (barely) living hell.

Summary
As a surgical intern in his second year at County General, John Carter is not doing a great job at taking care of himself. On a snowy day in March, Carter's sleep deprivation, poor eating habits, and dedication to his patients contribute to an incredibly poor judgement call that might just cost him everything.
In simpler terms: Carter goes into hypovolemic shock after donating a dangerous amount of blood during a chaotic shift in the ER.

Sicktember Day 4- Pneumonia
The entire journey to the hospital, John cries. He's doing his best to hide it, keeping his head tilted towards the window and chewing on his lower lip, but he's apparently too feverish to realise that his reflection gives the game away. Every time they pass a streetlight, the brief glow illuminates the tear tracks on his cheeks. He looks so young it frightens Anna to death.
“Nearly there,” She murmurs, as if it's the length of the drive itself which is upsetting him. “Not long now, John.”

Summary
John flicked his eyes over the immediate area before he started toward the mouth of the ambulance bay where he’d be able to see across the street to Doc Magoo’s and the parking spaces available over there. He assumed that Andrew had driven, but standing there in the moment he started to question it.
“John.” The familiar rasp was pitched just loud enough to carry and John felt himself smile at the way it rolled over him like a physical touch as he turned his head. Andrew stood there, sunglasses on his nose and hands tucked into his jacket pockets, looking just as Susan had described him.A sequel to our lives may not have fit together

Summary
Doctor (noun): a person with a medical degree whose job is to treat people who are sick or hurt — Cambridge Dictionary
Blinding fluorescent lights, the adrenaline rush you receive from wheeling patients on a gurney, the relief you feel when you’ve saved a patient’s life, that aching in your heart when you don’t — that’s all part of the life of a doctor.
And Erin St. George loves every minute of it.
After a two-year sabbatical in her hometown, Erin returns to County General Hospital with a goal to start fresh, repair the broken relationships she left in her wake. But when she returns, she underestimates how much can happen in just two short years.

BTHB prompt- Prank Gone Wrong
“Raul?” He calls. His voice is breathy and odd.
And now that he thinks about it, his breathing itself is odd too. Fast. Shallow. And his pulse. And-
“John? Hey, what is it?”
The medic glances back and forth between the road and the wing mirror- he's the one driving now, which at least makes this request a little easier.
“Could you…” Carter clears his throat. It changes nothing. “Could you pull over? Think I might b’about to throw up.”

Summary
Fluorescent lights. Charting pens that vanish by the hour. The steady thrum of controlled chaos. There are easier places to fall for someone than a Chicago emergency room, and Jane Becker — a fourth-year med student busy dodging trauma cases, gossip, and her own misplaced emotional timing — is trying very hard not to have feelings for John Carter.
And it doesn't particularly help that they shared the same air, the same hallways, the same endless days stitched together by trauma codes and vending machine lunches. Eventually, something had to give.
Welcome to County General. And remember to wash your hands.
