He watched the blur of Shelby’s white hair disappear around the corner of the tavern quickly as they continued to the door.
One last check around, no observers as they opened the door.

This place was huge! Like bigger than any building she has seen before. And the designs of it were that of an old ruins, and not the mention the castle off to the side of it—
She doesn’t regret her decision to come here. She runs up to the open doors, swerving a bit to avoid bumping into other students.
Walking inside was like walking through a portal to the past. The colours were dull, there was a cosy feeling. The windows were wide and stunning, and it felt like they didn’t even need the artificial lighting (although they probably did have it, Shelby doesn’t know).
As she was gawking, she bumps into someone. She stumbles back, before looking back up.

“Let me just run home to get you some dark oak,” Avid said, and his breath stuttered for a moment as he processed the words. Home. He’d called it home. Doovid, the person he’d been making a trade deal with, didn’t seem to notice the word at all, or, if he did, he didn’t take any notice of it.
He didn’t know that there was anything wrong with calling it that, the way a bone-deep dread settled into Avid.
He’d been trying to move forwards, sure, trying to make this place feel like home, and as long as Marm was here- but, once he started viewing this place as home, then it became- real, or something like that.

The building they were standing in - plank for plank a replica of his Jungle Kingdom home - was an obvious enough answer as to make the very question ridiculous. Of course Avid was lonely; he missed his friends, desperately. He missed Doovid, his wayward partner; He missed Vintage and Ruby and Viking and Trog and he even missed Milkman. But there was no fishing his friends out of the void - and he certainly didn't miss himself.
