Viktor was never able to join the ranks of his nation's army due to his disability, preferring to work as a healer; but when resources are scarce, he is to semi-officially help out the sirens. The sirens' duty is to lure rich humans into the ocean to then steal their gold... or hearts, as Viktor soon realises might be imminent when he meets Jayce, first-time visitor of the Piltie Bay...
Jayce is getting slightly fed up with big-city life and all the pressures of academia, so when the Kirammans, family friends, offer he join them on their yearly vacation to the Piltie Bay in the south of the country, he can't help but accept; but he may be getting more than he bargained for.
Very creative title I know. Anyway I've been seeing mermaid (merman?) Viktor art all over my twitter tl and I just couldn't stop myself. Why continue my old fics if I can make new ones?

Summary
A slow burn between two scientists, one from land while the other is from the sea, starting from a brief meeting in their youth to their adulthood. Occurring in a universe where the Merfolk, were exploited and nearly eliminated due to their connection to ‘magic’ by war and a substance called The Grey. The story will follow our two main characters as they attempt to bring peace between their peoples, while also keeping themselves alive.
(AKA: Merman Viktor and Human Jayce fall in love and solve political issues.)
((Title is a reference to the song Round Here by Counting Crows cause I felt like it))
(Tags will update as the story goes, there will be a time skip from childhood to adulthood. I also infamously include mpreg in everything so if possible merpreg (eggpreg?) isn’t your thing then maybe avoid this one? Idk I can’t commit yet.)

Jayce felt like his heart had stopped. He stood in one spot, bolted to the ground while his mind was processing what he was seeing. There, in front of him, lay on the now-wet deck a creature he only saw in fairy tale books and the deepest recesses of his memories. He felt heart in his ribcage pump almost painfully, while black specks inconspicuously creeped into his vision. He could not faint right now when what he was witnessing was surely a once-in-a-lifetime moment.
Not to mention that this creature would surely eat him if he were to pass out.

Yuuri had just expected to have a quiet evening at the pier, dipping his legs in the water and watching the stars. Victor had just wanted to explore the oceans he hadn't yet ventured through when he caught sight of those legs, something he'd never seen before. It started as curiosity, a desire to know more despite the stories telling him that humans were dangerous creatures.
The first human Victor ever met had enchanted him immediately. The first mermaid Yuuri ever met had just as strong an effect.
