Merlin wasn’t familiar with him in the way he was with Auntie Ambrosia, or had known him as long as the boys at the market, but Frik had been nothing but patient and mild to Merlin- if a little pestersome about lessons. He had also been the only person Merlin had truly interacted with since he had arrived at this awful place, and was the only source of silliness and cheer he had gotten in the long, long months.
Out of anyone here, Merlin could easily say that he liked Frik the most.
And Frik didn’t deserve that.

Before Uther sets his eyes on Igraine, time runs through Mab's hands like hot dry sand. In a desperate attempt to find anything that could save the fate of The Old Ways, she finds a key with the potential to unlock a way of preserving magic forever. But Mab is too weak to take the key herself, and its keeper won’t give it over to the Queen of Air and Darkness lightly. So it’s best to send her servant to do her dirty work.
But how dirty would that work need to get before the key is in Mab’s icy hands?
And will Frik remember the task at hand or will he lose himself to the plan Mab gave him.
History repeats itself, after all. And is this just the beginning of a cycle of doomed romances?
