Jin Ling whirls around to look up at his uncle with big pleading eyes. “Jiujiu, can we?”
“Yeah, jiujiu, it’s for school.” Huaisang quips, also with big eyes, and Jiang Cheng knows it's on purpose.
He looks at them both and finds it hard to keep his frown in place. This combination should be illegal.
Jiang Cheng and Nie Huaisang babysit little Jin Ling. Bead bracelets happen.

Nie Huaisang is vaguely aware of the very disturbing bawling noises they both make as they step towards each other, but he stops just at the last second, stepping back from the other. “No! No no no- Wait, I’ve got paint all over, and that jacket looks expensive!”
Almost a year after he disappears, Wei Wuxian turns up at Nie Huaisang's and Jiang Cheng's doorstep, with a kid in tow.

“I did, though.” Huaisang says, and Jiang Cheng looks at him. He sets down his plate and looks back at him. “I did sign up for this, A-Cheng. You asked me to sing your songs, and I did. You asked me to go on stage, and I did. You asked me to join you on tour, and I did. You asked me every step of the way. I said yes every time.”
Then: Jiang Cheng was trying to find himself after his band took an unexpected break. Nie Huaisang was trying to prove he could be independent doing his art. They were roommates.
