"Besides, you're still-" Francis takes in a breath, not sure how this evening turned from him being irritated with the world to feeling the need to reassure the younger man, "You are not an unpleasant sight. Not hardly."
"I look-"
Francis curses and sits up, turning and thumping his palm to James' sternum, then pointing a firm finger in the younger man's face.
"Stop pitying yourself for a loss you perceive more than anyone else," Francis whispers, "You're neither ugly nor have you lost any of your charms. Don't subject me to your self-deprecation when I could never even compare-"
His voice catches and he has to stop, breathing deeply and studying James, who's looking up at him with wide, dark eyes.

James can't stop caressing the fabric of the dress.
He knows it's not the softest thing he's ever touched, but it feels like it: the silk is of such high quality that it feels pleasantly fresh under his trembling touch and looks almost wet to the eye, for how shiny and sleek it is. The deep green shade Francis has picked -which was incidentally complementing the deep red blush on his ears so well,- makes the gown look like a precious jewel itself, so much that James almost feels covered in a cascade of tiny, shining emeralds.
