Summary
After the war with the Decay of Angels is over, Ranpo is the one chosen to join the Port Mafia. He's teamed up with Chūya to uncover a decade's long PM infiltration and to take down the enemies within other underground organizations. Ranpo never expected to not only learn more about what he's capable of as a detective, but to also learn of his past and what really happened to his parents--and how deeply they themselves were tied to what's lurking in the underbelly of Yokohama.
Though this is very largely Ranpo's story (and ever since Ranpo and Chūya went into Poe's book, I've been obsessed with wanting to know what went on in there between them), it transformed into something much bigger. The Agency is dealing with the aftermath of the DOA; many young children lost their parents and there are citizens who are still weary of the ADA's true intentions. Atsushi and Akutagawa created their singularity to defeat Fyodor (though his actual demise is still a big question mark) and are trying to figure out what this truly means for them. A new threatening foreign ability user has entered Ango's radar. Sigma has *years* worth of Fyodor's memories he needs to get off his chest.

Chuuya remains in place, his chin tilting upward to meet the man too close for comfort. To stare within the dizzying spark in mahogany eyes and beg not to drown in the meaning of that glow. "A year," he throws the offer forward, allowing it to hit against Dazai's chest in hopes that it will burrow there.
"Give me a year and I'll give you a reason to live.”
——Chuuya, faced with the task of clearing out his dead sister's belongings in their childhood home, reluctantly returns to the rundown ocean town he left behind.
When he saves Dazai from drowning, only to discover it was a suicide attempt, Chuuya makes a desperate deal: help him fix the house for one year, and, if by the end, he hasn’t given Dazai a reason to live, he’ll let him die in peace.
As their interactions deepen, Chuuya begins to unravel the layers of Dazai’s life, and is forced to confront loss, healing, and what it means to love someone enough to let them go.

The bartender just offers him a grimace and picks up his glass. It’s so warm in the small room; all yellows and reds and oranges and a startling absence of blue. He listens as the dark liquid glugs and glugs and the ice in his cup crackles and splits. The man delivers his order with a marlboro balanced precariously on the rim. Dazai’s head moves up to look at the man, properly, for maybe the first time that night. He sports a matching stick, a blue lighter resting between his middle and ring finger.
“To those who are not with us anymore,” The man says slowly, simply. He offers Dazai the light after his begins to glow a light red.
“I always knew you were smart,” he replies.
