Jack Drake is fine.
Sure, he's battling depression, grieving two dead parents, and being threatened by his dean to go on a possibly-illegal-dig in China, but aside from that everything is hunky-dory.
He just has to survive the summer, then he can go back to finishing his degree in peace. It's not like it'll be hard; a few months sketching ancient ruins isn't dangerous.
At least, not until the dig site becomes ground zero for a draconic territory dispute. Now Jack has to outsmart the world's most dangerous predator, protect Janet, a dragon accidentally turned human, and make it back to civilization before he becomes the next Gotham Unsolved.
Piece of cake.
Except for the part where he's falling for Janet. That wasn't supposed to happen.

That woke Jack right up in a hurry. Especially when the rapid, but somehow still smooth, acceleration pushed him back firmly into his seat. Jack panic-grabbed and held onto his armrests as he asked with forced calm, "Tim, what is going on?"
