Chekov and Uhura are back on the Enterprise, but things are not the same. Sulu knows now what it's like to believe he'll never see them again - and it's an
experience he never wants to repeat. Yet since Chekov and Uhura returned from Triskelion, he's barely seen Chekov - and not only because they've been working different shifts. Chekov is avoiding him. He's avoiding everyone.
Uhura thinks it's because he blames himself for what happened on Triskelion.
They're right - but it isn't guilt that's keeping Chekov away. It's determination to be sure he will ready for the next away mission; ready to protect himself and his comrades.
Sulu, Chekov, and Uhura have been assigned to the initial away team to complete a preliminary planetary survey prior to the scheduling of much-needed shore leave.
Chekov is not ready - but he's determined to prove himself capable of protecting his comrades. He's determined to regain the trust and friendship he's certain he has lost.
An away mission is a perfect opportunity for him to do so - and for Sulu and Uhura to prove to Chekov that to them, he is much more than a junior officer who serves on the same ship. -

“‘First officer faints on bridge for no reason’, is that what you want me to put in my medical log?”
“I did not faint.”
“I know that, Mr. Spock. Vulcans are practically incapable of fainting. Except, I don’t know that. You’re half human. I have no way of knowing how your Vulcan and human physiologies work together unless you tell me.”
“My medical file—“
“Is woefully lacking,” the doctor snapped.
Dr. McCoy had tried to broach this subject with him several times before, but Spock had always managed to brush him off. He wasn’t ready to approach this conversation again.Or, McCoy tries to help Spock who is having none of it, Spock is eventually forced to admit to himself that McCoy has actually managed to surprise him/might deserve his grudging respect, and poor Chekov has a nervous breakdown.

The door slid open to reveal a tired- and concerned-looking helmsman, with his hair sticking up in odd places. “Chekov,” Sulu said quietly, as a greeting. “What is it?” His eyebrows pinched together and he continued. “Are you okay?”
“No,” Pavel answered simply. “May I come inside?”
Sulu stepped aside wordlessly and Pavel brushed past him into the room. Their temporary quarters on the starbase were small and bland, yet cosy. Sulu’s was nearly identical to his own. He hitched forward on his feet as he stopped, before turning to look at Sulu.
“I wanted to make sure you were… alive,” Pavel admitted slowly, torn between keeping his gaze shamefully on the floor and staring directly into Sulu’s eyes. He compromised on the crook of Sulu’s neck. “I had a dream. I had killed you, in it. I needed to see you.”
Sulu’s response was barely a whisper. “Oh, Chekov…”
