Summary
“Do you want to get some sleep?” Kazuki asks.
Rather than answering directly, he carefully offers up, “I’d like to go to bed with you.”

Summary
“…what time is it…?” Soushi thinks to ask, finally, looking back up at where Kazuki is practically pouting at him.
“It’s nearly ten.” His tone is slightly accusing, but… well.
If that’s true, Soushi may or may not have accidentally spent nearly two hours so distracted by biting marks into Kazuki’s skin that he’d forgotten to actually get him off, so… he can’t quite blame him for that.

Summary
“Kazuki.” He tries to keep his voice even, to avoid worsening the slightly skittish look that Kazuki had developed when Soushi inhaled to speak. “What do you think you’re doing?”
He gestures, then, as best he can right now, at himself. Kazuki goes still for a moment, and then blinks slowly, looking Soushi up and down.
“It’s cold outside,” he says, as though that explains it, and then adds, “There’s snow, too.”

Summary
Soushi is… well, he’s not surprised to have seen the other Soushi in that moment, because it’s not as though he doesn’t recognize his voice. He’s also not surprised by the frown on that guy’s face, because it’s…
(To say that they don’t exactly get on would be like saying water is wet. Soushi does not like that guy, and the space he occupies in Kazuki’s attentions. He assumes the feeling is mutual. Soushi tolerates him, because having both of them at his sides makes Kazuki radiantly happy, and that’s presumably mutual too.)
…it’s complicated.

Summary
“I— Soushi…!” Kazuki’s cheeks are flushed even darker than before, now, obviously embarrassed to be caught at this. “You— I didn’t… mean to wake you…”
“It’s fine,” Soushi assures him easily, shifting closer until he can lean in between Kazuki’s legs. “I’ve just been enjoying the show.”

Summary
“Next time I have to watch you drooling over Kazuki at the breakfast table I’m letting you tip your coffee in your lap,” he comments, and then gathers up his homework and excuses himself before either of them can say anything in return. On his way out of the kitchen, he calls out, “And you still have to help me with that project! And Kazuki is banned from the room when you do!”
(or: Soushi and Kazuki are hopelessly gone on each other, but at least the other Soushi is going to get some backup in dealing with how gross they are. Eventually.)

Summary
Even knowing exactly what to expect in his heart, it still punches the air from Soushi’s lungs to see the baby curled up in the cockpit, half-hidden in that guy’s synergetic suit and surrounded by crystals. It’s all that Soushi can do to scoop him up - awkwardly, shakily, because he doesn’t know how to hold a baby and his hands won’t stop trembling and he’s desperately afraid of accidentally letting one of those crystals cut the baby - and pull his Alvis coat tighter around the both of them.

Summary
There’s a moment where the younger Soushi presumably actually does as he’s told for once, and considers the level of genuine dread that would probably be involved in trying to pick a ring with Maya there to judge his choices. At least, Soushi assumes he’s considering it, given that he proceeds to shudder dramatically and say, “…okay. I guess I can help a little.”

Summary
“Aren’t you going to take my order?” Soushi demands. His tail is still puffed up huge, and practically vibrating - like the time as a toddler when he’d seen a crab on the beach and spent five minutes determinedly hissing at it and digging his fingers into the wet sand like claws as Kazuki had tried to pick him up, Kazuki remembers, and has to bite his cheek to stop himself from smiling at the memory.

Summary
“I’m fine,” Kazuki interrupts. “You really don’t need to worry…”
Soushi just frowns silently, glancing down at where Kazuki is pressing a hand to his bump, and then lifts his eyes back up to Kazuki’s face and watches until he relents with a sigh.

Summary
Toomi only stares at him, and usually she has that searching, strip you to the bones kind of look in her eyes. Soushi’s used to that look, now, or at least as used to it as it’s possible to get; he expects it, even as he’s mildly terrified by it. Now, though, she just looks tired. She’s staring at him flatly, and it’s not— it’s not the kind of look that levels judgement, or sees through you, it’s just—
She just looks tired.

Summary
There’s silence on the line for a moment, and then she asks, “Kazuki-kun’s parental leave started this week, didn’t it?”
Soushi nods absently, remembers a moment later that Toomi can’t see him, and instead says, “Mm. From Monday.”
“That’s what I thought,” Toomi agrees. “Which is why I was wondering, Minashiro-kun… why, exactly, did Kazuki-kun work the lunch shift at Rakuen today?”

Summary
More satisfying than any of those useless answers to useless questions - because it doesn’t matter, now, not when there’s no way of changing what was done - is pushing. Sitting that little bit too close to Soushi, or running a hand up Soushi’s thigh, or sliding his arm around Soushi’s shoulder, and every time keeping his eyes focused on the camera.
He can’t see Makabe Kazuki’s reactions to this, obviously. The Element is not someone who visits him. But he knows that it must burn, particularly the way that Soushi doesn’t resist it. That, at least, brings Maris some satisfaction.

Summary
Kazuki stares at him, and something like guilt flashes across his face, and Soushi nearly kicks himself. He’d wanted to— it had felt important to remind Kazuki - this shade of him, lingering in Soushi’s room in a way that says haunting more than it says visitor - that, even without the original Soushi here, there are people who care for him. But that hadn’t been intended to make him guilty, and Soushi is not actually trying to hurt Kazuki right now, and yet. And yet.

Summary
Soushi’s thoughts, the whole wild tangle of them, are interrupted by Kazuki’s hand coming up to grip his chin firmly and stopping him from moving back in to bite again. Instead, his head is pushed back - gently, but just as firmly - until their eyes meet.
(Kazuki’s expression is so impossibly soft, as always, that Soushi’s knees feel weak.)
“Soushi,” he says again. “Calm down for me, okay?”

Summary
The first time that Kazuki pauses in the kitchen to press a hand to his bump, blinking down at the little fluttering feeling inside, he looks back up to find both Soushi and Soushi looking mildly panicked from the table.
(Of course, that child is still trying to look disinterested, but he’s not… very good at it, now that Kazuki knows what to look for.)

Summary
“What do you need, Kazuki? Anything.”
Kazuki shudders above him, muscles wound so tight he feels like he might shatter in Soushi’s grip, and breathes out against Soushi’s lips, “I need you inside me. Nothing else, just— just you inside.”

Summary
“You— you gave it Soushi’s name,” Maris bites out, when he thinks he can trust his voice to only shake a little.
Makabe doesn’t blink, or twitch, or even breathe as far as Maris can see. He only stares, unblinking, his expression so blank that Maris almost starts to wonder if there’s actually anything left inside his head, until his gaze finally drags down slowly to the pram’s contents.
“Soushi is Soushi,” he says eventually, as though that explains anything. As though it justifies anything.
(or: Soushi sacrifices himself to defeat Malespero, and Maris isn't a person made for picking up the pieces. And Makabe Kazuki is barely a person at all anymore, so here they are.)

Summary
"As long as we share this feeling...you'll always be my Kazuki-san," Asuka continues, her voice going quieter and sounding like a murmur above Kazuki's head. She seems to bury her face there, inhaling Kazuki's scent.
Kazuki's face pursed. She remained silent, face buried into Asuka's chest, ruminating the quiet statement Asuka managed.
