Rain pattered against the broken stained-glass windows of the long-abandoned St. Jude’s Church, casting fractured, spectral colors across the dusty pews. The scent of mildew and rot mixed with the chill in the air. Adam Murray, flashlight in hand, swept the beam across a crumbling altar. “You sure this place hasn’t already been cleared?” Jonah asked, nervously glancing back at the boarded-up entrance they had slipped through.
Adam shrugged. “Client said they still hear noises. If it’s another mimic, that’s a paycheck.”
Jonah scoffed. “More like a headache. You know how these always end, man.” The two teens crept deeper into the sanctuary, their voices echoing slightly. A bat flitted past overhead, prompting Jonah to yelp and swing his camcorder wildly. “Jesus! Why is it always bats or ghosts?”

Mark thought his eyes were open but there was only blackness.
He couldn’t see or hear anything.
His body couldn’t even move a centimetre.
But he felt like he didn’t belong here. He belonged with other people.
Suddenly he could faintly hear voices not in the darkness.
They were calling to him. But what did they want?
He could move suddenly and began to swim upwards with little to no strength but getting somewhere at least.
The voices sounded desperate but as he tried to reach for them something trapped him from feeling them.
It felt like brick wall, but it looked like glass. He could see other people’s blurry figures but…he just couldn’t reach them.
