Laeriel’s fingers twitched, and she rolled over, propping herself up on one elbow. Her eyes, wide and full of that wild energy, flicked to Galadriel. “It’s strange,” she began, her voice taking on a thoughtful edge, “because I didn’t expect it. I thought I was done with it. Love, I mean. But then... I saw him. And there it was. This pull, like something had shifted, like the world tilted just enough that I couldn’t ignore it.”
Galadriel’s brow arched, a faint hint of surprise in her otherwise unreadable expression. She had never seen Laeriel this... grounded before. The words, the way she spoke—they were raw, unguarded.
It wasn’t like Laeriel to be this vulnerable, even with someone like her.
“He is kind,” she said, voice quieter now, more serious. “Kind in a way that is not performative, not for show. He listens—not just to words, but to what is unsaid. And he sees people. Truly sees them.”

Arwen's face crumpled up in another cry, and he walked her around the room, finally settling next to the open windows, and she fell silent, seeming to take in the sounds of the night, to feel the starlight on her face.
Elrond didn't register the addition of someone new in the room till he heard the soft rustle of a gown and felt two smooth arms slip around his waist and Celebrian lean her head on his shoulder."

For a while, all was still. Only the faint creak of settling wood and the occasional rustle of paper disturbed the peace. It was the kind of quiet Elrond cherished, a world where only knowledge and thought existed, where the weight of expectation momentarily lifted.
Then, the door slammed open.
“Elrond! Help me!”
He startled so violently that his book slipped from his lap and hit the floor with a heavy thud. His breath caught as he looked up to see Galadriel standing in the doorway, golden hair disheveled, blue eyes wild with urgency. Her dress was rumpled, her cheeks flushed, and she was trembling.
“What?” he managed, still halfway between the quiet world of ink and paper and the sudden storm of his friend’s arrival.

The great halls of Lindon shimmered with warm light as lanterns swayed gently in the winter breeze. The feast of Yule was in full swing, and though the air was brisk outside, the great hearths inside glowed with the cheerful heat of roaring fires. The mingling scents of spiced cider, roasted nuts, and freshly baked bread filled the air, accompanied by the soft strains of music from harpists and flutists stationed along the walls.
Elrond stood near one of the wide, arched windows, his slender hands clasped tightly behind his back. His dark curls tumbled messily around his face, a halo of unruly softness that seemed at odds with his otherwise composed demeanor. He watched the festivities from afar, his sharp grey eyes scanning the sea of elegantly dressed Elves who whirled and twirled across the floor.
It wasn’t that he disliked the merriment—he simply wasn’t sure how to join it. His tunic of deep green velvet and silver embroidery had been fussed over by more hands than he cared to count, and the weight of everyone’s expectations had left him feeling stiff and out of place. He shifted his weight from one foot to the other, trying not to look too much like a nervous child hiding from the fun...

Walking past Elrond and Galadriel, she takes her leave and excuses herself. Out into the courtyard, her eyes begin to well up in tears. Taking tiny steps further down the path, she hears Elrond declare, “That necklace meant a lot to the both of you.” Facing her friend, she softly answers, “It means little to me now, and less with each passing day.” Bowing her head, she continues her walk while Elrond hurries his steps. Stopping her in her tracks, “I don’t understand how you don’t even feel her,” Elrond’s confused face gets Solaris to ask, “How could I?” Tilting his head to the side, “The tension is palpable, the feelings are real. How long must you stay mad at her? Resisting your bond will only aggravate the pain.”
“There is no bond, Elrond.” Solaris professes. Much to her discomfort, “My heart was emptied from the moment she left Valinor.” Tears fall as she chokes out, “What you see now, is a soulless type of love.”

The town had an air of decay—salted wood groaned underfoot, ropes creaked in the whistling wind, and the sea slapped against the Driftmark harbor with a briny stench that clung to everything. Galadriel and Elrond rode in, their cloaks billowing as they passed watchful, unfriendly gazes. Driftmark was known for its contract work, but elves were hardly welcome here. Whispers slid from open doorways, and suspicious eyes glinted under pulled-down hoods.
They stopped outside a rundown tavern, its windows murky with grease and smoke.
Galadriel swung down from her horse first, her blonde hair and cool gaze cutting through the filth of the street. Elrond followed, curls sticking to his brow as he surveyed the room through narrowed, dark eyes. Inside, the murmur of conversation dulled as they entered. Human men—drunk, slouched, and smelling of stale ale—shifted uncomfortably but kept their eyes on the strangers.
Galadriel swept a glance over the room, unimpressed, and strode toward the counter. Elrond followed at her side, the two of them moving in seamless unity, their footsteps muffled but heavy on the creaky wooden floor...
