It's a stupid and utterly selfish thing to do, and almost certainly, history will know her as the one who broke quarantine, the one who killed one point five million people because she didn't want to die alone. The monster’s body was strange, but its face was downright uncanny. Its stark blue eyes were a bit too large, giving it a childlike look that didn’t fit at all with the rest of its face. The features were static and unchanging, no twitch or pull of facial muscles, just the eerily intelligent flick of its eyes between Holden and Amos. It looked more like something wearing a human mask than the creature’s actual face.

Miller’s ghost had been showing up more often as of late, rambling on about doors and corners, offering no explanations and no answers to Holden’s increasingly frustrated questions. So yeah, maybe Holden wasn’t at the top of his game. Maybe he’d run a few too many brain scans, more than could be considered strictly rational. Maybe he’d been a little different lately.
But this was just excessive.
