Summary
“Who cares about a stupid chip, Gemma?” Devon asks her. “We could do it.”
“Do what? Go to the beach and pretend I’m there for the first time?”
“Mark is doing something ridiculous like that right now. Probably stepping into a fountain or crossing the street. Do you think it’s the first time he’s doing that?”
“It’s his innie’s first time.”
“It’s about perception, Gemma. You want to, don’t you?”
“It wouldn’t be real.”
“Lumon isn’t taking this from you. Come on.”

Summary
"Perverted bastard." Mark says fondly, playing with Petey's tie. "Look at you. I'm younger than your daughter, you sick piece of shit, I'm a goddamn toddler, remember? And you, you big boys up in the sky, you like that, don't you? Like the bobbly-headed dolls that you can pick up and play with and forget about."
__Petey slips down the final dark spiral, not entirely alone.

Irving wakes up from a nightmare and fantasizes deeply about Burt and belts to calm down.
Title and story inspired by Bruce Springsteen’s “I’m on fire,” which I listened to on repeat pretty much the whole time i was writing this and which you could also listen to on repeat while reading. For the vibes

Gemma looks at Mark as if she's seeing right through to his core: muscles, blood, bone, and sinew revealing themselves in exaltation.

Summary
“He had seen the night sky now, once, and he would never forget how they twinkled, winking joyfully from on high. Her bare shoulder elicited that same joy in him, that frantic, wild abandon. The feeling of rightness in one’s body, how it moved and breathed, how it could gaze up into the sky and be at one with the world.”
Mark daydreams about Helly on company time.

Summary
Helly's voice comes over the speaker on the table. "What did you do to Mark?"
"I am Mark."
"How did you take control of his body?"
"This is my body. I had it first!"
"Well he had it last. You're not supposed to be able to exist here! What the fuck did you do?"
"I have no idea, but if you don't let me out here and see my fucking wife and daughter right fucking now, I'm going to fucking kill you -"
Mark S. wakes up in the conference room alone.
Picking up from the ending of Season 2, while Helly and Mark S. try to cobble together some sort of life for the innies on the severed floor, Mark Scout is desperate to return to the family he lost. However, as much as everyone would like to pretend otherwise, reintegration will happen, one way or the other. Meanwhile, Julia has no clue what is going on, but wherever she is, it’s not the Myrtle Eagan School for Girls and that’s good enough for her.
(or: a continuation of my au where gemma was pregnant before she was taken by Lumon and how that changed everything and nothing, based on the season 2 ending and some musings I had about where the story could possibly go from there.)

Summary
“Kim Seungmin?”
He’s not sure he can do this.
“That’s me.” Seungmin’s voice cracks against his will— an unfortunate first— well, second introduction.
“It’s nice to meet you—” Jesus fucking Christ “—I’m Mentor Yang. But there’s a variation of titles and nicknames you can call me and choose from if you wish to become more comfortable. Many just call me by my first name, Jeongin.”
Or;
In a future in which more than 77% of the population is severed, companies sometimes offer interesting plans for dual-relationships between one’s innie and any relationships their outie may have.
Jeongin is severed. He’s also married.
…To his client.

Summary
"Both Helly and Helena, they’ve found, do agree on some things. After all, they are one in the same, even if she’s too stubborn to admit it. They both like expensive wine. They both detest long car rides. And they both love earning Mark’s approval."
//
Hellyna's reintegration is complicated; sometimes, Mark can help with her with that.

Summary
“The classical approach is designed to protect the person being severed from receiving sensory input during the procedure. Not pain; we use local anaesthetic to the scalp, and the brain itself has no nerve endings, of course.”
“Of course.” Mark rolls his eyes. She doesn’t seem to notice.
“But your tract is too scarred to use the same approach. My modified technique won’t cause you any permanent damage, but there may be some… somatosensory effects.” She glances down at his crotch, and Mark feels his face flush with shame and anger.
Reghabi is forced to adjust her approach to reach Mark’s chip. To both of their horror, it involves stimulating the pleasure centers of his brain.

Summary
It’s the third time Devon has watched her sister’s head collide with cold, ceramic kitchen tile.
She wonders if the occurrence ever becomes normal. She wonders if one day, she’ll visit Mark and, when the fall inevitably happens, she’ll react logically, not viscerally. She’ll laugh it off, quip something along the lines of “You alright, m’lady?” and retrieve an ice pack from a well-stocked freezer.
In which Devon attempts to support her transgender sister as they grow up together.

Summary
In the aftermath of ORTBO, each time Mark leaves work, he has been noticing tremors running through him.
It's always brief and stops before the elevator even rises to the main level, so he pushes it off as a side effect of reintegration.

Summary
[By the way: facing the wall, such gentlemen—that is, the “direct” persons and men of action—are genuinely nonplussed. For them a wall is not an evasion, as for us people who think and consequently do nothing; it is not an excuse for turning aside, an excuse for which we are always very glad, though we scarcely believe in it ourselves, as a rule. No, they are nonplussed in all sincerity. The wall has for them something tranquillising, morally soothing, final—maybe even something mysterious ... but of the wall later.]

Summary
It starts with a nosebleed.
Helly hovers nearby, the image of blood smeared on his cheek still fresh in her mind. Miss Huang's voice fades to a dull hum as her gaze catches on Mark's hand, his fingers wrapped around the edge of the desk. Her mind immediately flashes to exactly where that hand was not even an hour ago, and she's sure her face is flushed as she recalls how wonderful he made her feel.
Everything since she returned to the severed floor has been a nightmare that she can’t escape, but this. This is one good thing. Something that belongs just to her and Mark.
Something that no one can take away from her.
But then Miss Huang suddenly calls out Mark's name, her voice shrill with panic. When Helly looks at him, his face is paler than it should be, his gaze vacant, and a thick tendril of fear slithers through her veins.

or, Mark forgets bit by bit.
