Public executions were a very rare occurrence within the borders of Sumeru, but with the Great Lord Rukkhadevata death and Lesser Lord Kusanali’s imprisonment five hundred years ago, they have been becoming much more common with every decade. Executions were simply one of the Akademiya’s useful tools: not only they are able to dispose of the ones who they simply dislike, but also make a show out of it for every citizen to see, to demonstrate what will happen to those who will try to go against them.
As the time passed, the executions not only became more frequent, but also more violent and inhumane. The process of hanging just wasn’t that much of a spectacle, which people craved. People wanted entertainment, even if their entertainment is someone else’s agony.
