Gambit & the X-Ternals have just returned from Shi'ar space with a shard of the M'kraan Crystal that could set their universe back on its correct course. The love of his life, Rogue, is married to his former best friend, Erik Lehnsherr--better known as Magneto. When Gambit was inside the crystal, he learned the truth about their son. Now he's back in Westchester and needs to share the heartbreaking truth with Rogue.

"If it's any consolation…" she started, breaking their intense gaze by looking downward, unsure if it was wise to make this declaration. However, she said it anyway, choosing that it was better to live without that one regret in her heart, "I wish things had been different."
He breathed quietly, kissing her through her hair before he spoke softly, "Well… this be the world we livin' in, chère… and as is, there seems t' be li'l room fo' what we wish fo'. Only survival."
Unable to disagree with him, she nodded, and that traitorous tear slipped down her cheek. As she looked up at him, her eyes were glassy and dull with grief for what they would lose in each other.
"Mebbe in another life…" he mused charmingly with that devilish smirk of his that won her heart over a dozen times.
