Jack is distraught when a hopeless Dean meets his demise at the hands of a piece of rebar. As the new God, he knows all. He especially knows that Dean loves Cas as much as Cas loves Dean. So, discarding his commitment to remain hands off, he infiltrates the Empty to save his father, who he knows is the only person who can convince Dean to live again. But, when a sceptical Cas doesn't believe Dean reciprocates his love, Jack decides to show Cas some of the moments—tearing through Purgatory to find him, gazing at him through the window in Rexford, the aftermath of his death at the lake house, and so many more—that prove just how in love with him Dean really is.

Set somewhere after 15.19.
Sam and Dean have run themselves nearly into the ground trying to find a way to bring Cas back, but it still comes as a shock when Castiel, Angel of the Lord appears in the bunker, disheveled and despondent.
Of course the first thing our beloveds do is miscommunicate, and things are hella awkward from there on in.
Since their priorities have changed, Sam thinks that a case is just the thing they need to get over... whatever this weirdness is.
Along the way Dean starts to question if things are really what they seem and Sam just questions which of these two women will kill him first.
Oh, and Cas and Rowena become emotionally attached to an invisible monster.or, the one where Dean can't let himself have good things.

The application on Dean’s desk is not abandoned, because Dean and Sam agree to stop hunting after they defeat Chuck. No “last hunts”. No cleaning up their father’s messes. No obscure reappearances from forgotten vampires. No rebar. And no 35 minute tearful goodbyes instead of the sound of an ambulance. Just two former hunters moving on with their lives.
Even though Dean is pretty happy with his life… he still thinks about the angel that saved them and, ultimately, the world. After one too many sad nights, and a come to Jesus moment dealt at the hand of his fed up brother, Dean promises himself, if he ever sees Castiel again… he will do things differently.
He buys and remodels the Roadhouse, hires Eileen as a barback/bouncer, and over a year after he lost Castiel, one day, the door to his bar opens and Dean hears the two of the most beautiful words of his life,
“Hello, Dean.”

Stories are, generally speaking, supposed to end happily. And, now that Chuck was gone and Billie was dead, it was the perfect time to develop said happy ending. Sam's happy with Eileen, Jack's the new God, and Cas is... Cas is alive. He's not happy, though. He's distant. Worried. Like he doesn't want to be happy. But that doesn't make sense, right? Dean's just making it up. Or something.
That is, until it became abundantly clear that, no, actually, he wasn't making it up, as Cas says one simple, devastating statement. “I have to die. And you have to kill me.”
