"Are you sure? You’ve never fought against a gatekeeper before."
Running from battle was a common response when afflicted by fear. Normally, it didn’t involve carrying Makoto away as well.

Makoto stopped in his tracks when they finally reached a dead end, then turned around to face Ryoji with an expression he couldn’t read at all. His eyebrows were pinched together, and his usual poker face was slightly tighter than usual.
“We need to talk,” Makoto said. “About your insufficiencies as a teammate.”
